Embodiment Construction

[0088] Although specific embodiments and examples are described below, the present disclosure goes beyond the specifically disclosed embodiments and / or uses and obvious modifications and equivalents thereof. Therefore, it is intended that the scope of the present disclosure should not be limited by any particular embodiments described below.

[0089] overview

[0090] Applications of the mobile computing device for use in conjunction with a physiological parameter monitoring component to detect a physiological parameter of an opioid user may include determining a physiological condition of the opioid user based at least in part on the physiological parameter, and based at least in part on the physiological condition of the opioid user. Provide notice. The physiological parameter monitoring component may be a pulse oximeter comprising sensors and signal processing means. Examples of physiological parameters that can be monitored are peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ), r...

Abstract

An overdose of opioids can cause the user to stop breathing, resulting in death. A physiological monitoring system monitors respiration based on oxygen saturation readings from a fingertip pulse oximeter in communication with a smart mobile device and sends opioid monitoring information from the smart mobile device to an opioid overdose monitoring service. The opioid overdose monitoring service notifies a first set of contacts when the opioid monitoring information indicates a non-distress stats and notifies a second set of contact when the opioid monitoring information indicates an overdose event. The notification can be a phone call or text message to a specified person, emergency personnel, or first responders, and can include the location of the smart mobile device. The smart mobile device can also include the location of the nearest treatment center having emergency medication used in treating opioid overdose, such as naloxone.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of detecting opioid overdose, and more particularly to detecting low oxygen saturation in the blood of opioid users and automatically notifying responders. Background technique [0002] Substance use disorders affect the lives of millions of people. An opioid overdose can occur when a person overdoses on illegal opioids such as heroin or morphine. Physicians prescribe many controlled drugs for medical use. Patients may accidentally take extra doses or intentionally misuse prescription opioids. Mixing prescription opioids with other prescription drugs, alcohol, or over-the-counter medications may lead to an overdose. Children are especially prone to accidental overdose if they take medicines that are not suitable for them. An opioid overdose is life-threatening and requires immediate emergency treatment. Contents of the invention [0003] Opioid overdose is toxicity due to overdose or opioids....
