Linearly polarized backlight source in conjunction with polarized phosphor emission screens for use in liquid crystal displays

A device for displaying images positions a luminescent material between a light source and a liquid crystal display (LCD). The light source, which comprises one or more nonpolar or semipolar III-nitride based light emitting diodes (LEDs), emits a primary light having a specified polarization direction and comprising one or more first wavelengths. This primary light emitted by the light source is a linearly polarized light that eliminates any need for a polarizer. The luminescent material, which comprises one or more phosphors, is optically pumped by the primary light and emits a secondary light having the polarization direction of the primary light, wherein the secondary light is comprised one or more second wavelengths that are different from the first wavelength. This secondary light emitted by the luminescent material is a colored light that eliminates any need for a color filter. The LCD receives the secondary light and displays one or more images in response thereto.

Swarm location service for mobile ad hoc network communications

A Swarm Autonomous Routing Algorithm (SARA) is performed by simple communication node devices for node to node communications in a network, especially a Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET). Each node maintains a table of pheromone values for known neighbor nodes. Pheromone values are dynamic for adapting to a dynamic arrangement of nodes, and are updated either passively or actively. Routing tables are not used. When a node receives a packet, it uses the pheromone table to simply determine whether or not to forward (rebroadcast) the packet to a neighbor node, and if possible, determines and indicates the best neighbor node for next forwarding the packet. Destination Zone Routing (DZR) and Swarm Location Service (SLS) are alternative enhancements of SARA that can be used for more efficient routing when nodes are location aware / knowledgeable. SLS may also be used to improve routing algorithms other than SARA.

A wedged multi-facet illumination window is used to create an illumination field that is larger than the field of view of the imaging optics. An electrically conductive heat sink is engaged for dissipating the heat generated by the solid light source and also for shielding end side of the endoscope. The disposable endoscope is shielded from electromagnetic interferences. A repeater unit is used to electrically connect the disposable endoscope with a remote receiver and to increase the data transfer rate. An electrical isolation means is provided between the endoscope and an image processing and power conditioning unit to protect the endoscope against electric shock.

System and method for controlling dynamically interactive parameters for image processing

A system and related techniques generate and present a set of linked, dynamically interactive image processing controls for image editing and optimization tasks. In embodiments a user interface may present a set of global editing modes such as color manipulation, exposure correction or others. Each mode may contain a hierarchical set of basic, intermediate and advanced controls such as one-button automatic fixes, color or saturation sliders or editable histograms or other curves. When a user wishes, for instance, to achieve a warmer color balance or perform other color-correction tasks, the system may automatically detect adjustments in one or more parameters, such as CMYK values, and automatically adjust the values of other parameters to enhance the intended correction or action. For instance when the magenta content on a CMYK slider is increased, the color saturation may be slightly increased or color temperature may be slightly raised, to create a warmer appearance in the color cast of the image. Other combinations of image parameters may be linked. According to embodiments, a set of editable curves such as histograms or gamma curves may be dragged or otherwise adjusted or manipulated by users, and saved for re-application to other images or at other times.

Scalable video coding using derivation of subblock subdivision for prediction from base layer

ActiveUS20150195566A1Improving available qualityMotion-compensated predictionColor television with pulse code modulationColor television with bandwidth reductionData streamVideo encoding
Scalable video coding is rendered more efficient by deriving / selecting a subblock subdivision to be used for enhancement layer prediction, among a set of possible subblock subdivisions of an enhancement layer block by evaluating the spatial variation of the base layer coding parameters over the base layer signal. By this measure, less of the signalization overhead has to be spent on signaling this subblock subdivision within the enhancement layer data stream, if any. The subblock subdivision thus selected may be used in predictively coding / decoding the enhancement layer signal.

Air cycle machine for an aircraft environmental control system

An ECS system provides an ACM which locates the compressor upon a common shaft between a first turbine and a second turbine. Each RAF is located remote from the ACM such that the turbines are located outboard on each end of the ACM to provide the highest efficiency possible with each turbine using a straight axial outlet diffuser. As the compressor is located between the turbines the bypass circuits from the turbines are less circuitous and more efficient. Integral valve ports formed into the ACM housing portions results in a weight reduced design due to increase bypass efficiencies and simplified installations.
