Embodiment Construction

[0075] The present invention provides such a method for forming a Simple Cache-Only Memory Architecture (S-COMA) system on top of a Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) infrastructure to use NUMA-associated devices for Data access capture, data movement and relationship management. According to this S-COMA organization, a portion of the main memory on each node can be used as a data cache for the global memory. Each of these S-COMA caches is managed by the local node that uses them.

[0076] Using the present invention, each node that caches data from a base node can cache the data within the normal NUMA hierarchy and can optionally cache Data is cached in the S-COMA cache memory.

[0077] The above is achieved using NUMA base local real addresses as global addresses for the S-COMA cache and translating base local real addresses into client local real addresses for executing the association protocol on client nodes. Likewise, for associated messages from clients to the base, th...

Abstract

A hybrid non-uniform-memory-architecture / simple-cache-only-memory-architecture (NUMA / S-COMA) memory system and method are described useful in association with a computer system having a plurality of nodes coupled to each other. The plurality of nodes include NUMA memory which are configured to store data lines. The NUMA memories include a NUMA coherence subsystem for coordinating transfer of data between the nodes. The at least one S-COMA cache is configured to employ the NUMA coherence subsystem in sending data communication to or receiving data communication from another node of the plurality of nodes of the computer system. Data stored at another node of the system is accessed using a home node real address as the network address. The home node real address is translated into a local real address at the client node using a boundary function translation table.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of distributed shared memory system and cache memory. In particular, the present invention relates to a hybrid architecture in which a first type of memory (simple COMA) is formed on the top layer, which is integrated with another type of memory (NUMA). Background technique [0002] The following terms are used in this document: [0003] Global Memory: It refers to memory objects that can be addressed by processes on different nodes. It is formed and installed on UNIX System V and is installed into the effective address space of each process that addresses global memory objects. [0004] DSM: Distributed Shared Memory. An architecture that provides shared memory functionality even though physical memory is distributed among the nodes of the system. [0005] S-COMA: SimpleCache only Memory Architecture. A DSM configuration in which each node reserves a portion of its local memory as a cache for global memory. Thi...
