Embodiment Construction

[0028] The present disclosure includes systems and methods for detecting and scoring motion artifacts in magnetic resonance (MR) images of a subject using MR signals from different coils. An object as used herein is an object placed within a bore of an MR imaging (MRI) system and imaged by the MRI system. The subject can be a human subject, an animal or a phantom. The systems and methods disclosed herein provide objective indicators of motion artifacts without requiring input from a user. Neither additional hardware nor navigator pulses are required. Furthermore, the systems and methods disclosed herein require a minimal training image dataset and limited human involvement for the rating of sports compared to artificial intelligence scoring methods for sports. Methodological aspects will be in part apparent and in part discussed explicitly in the following description.

[0029] In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a subject is placed in a magnet. When an object is in a mag...

Abstract

A magnetic resonance (MR) imaging method of detecting and scoring motion artifacts in a magnetic resonance (MR) image of a subject is provided. The method includes calculating a k-space disparity map based at least in part on a first MR signal of the object acquired with the first coil and a second MR signal of the object acquired with the second coil. The method also includes generating a difference graph based on the k-space difference graph, the difference graph including a curve. The method further includes calculating a motion score based on a curve in the difference graph, where the motion score indicates a level of motion artifacts in the image caused by motion of the object during acquisition of the first MR signal and the second MR signal, and the motion score includes an area below the curve. Further, the method includes outputting the motion score.

Description

Background technique [0001] The field of the present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for detecting and scoring motion artifacts, and more particularly to systems and methods for automatically detecting and scoring motion artifacts in magnetic resonance (MR) images. [0002] Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has proven useful in the diagnosis of many diseases. MRI provides detailed images of soft tissues, abnormal tissues (such as tumors), and other structures that cannot be easily imaged by other imaging modalities such as computed tomography (CT). Furthermore, MRI operates without exposing the patient to ionizing radiation experienced in modalities such as CT and X-ray. [0003] Patient motion is one of the biggest causes of inefficiency in clinical MRI, often requiring rescans or even a second patient visit. In particular, patient motion can cause blurring, artifacts, and other inconsistencies in MR images. Known methods of detecting motion require addi...
