Embodiment Construction

[0031] figure 1 Motor vehicle 1 with internal combustion engine 10 is shown. The internal combustion engine 10 is designed as an externally ignited internal combustion engine 10 according to the Otto principle and has a plurality of combustion chambers 12 on which a fuel injector 14 and a spark plug 16 are respectively arranged. Internal combustion engine 10 is connected via its exhaust port 18 to an exhaust system 22 of an exhaust gas aftertreatment system 20 . The motor vehicle 1 has at least one detector device 76 , preferably a plurality of detector devices 76 , by means of which the surroundings of the motor vehicle, the position of the motor vehicle, the direction of travel, the speed, the surroundings and possibly other parameters can be detected. Detection means 76 may include, in particular, GPS sensor 66 for detecting the position and position changes of motor vehicle 1 . The detection means 76 can also include one or more optical detection means 76 , in particular...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the exhaust gas aftertreatment of an externally ignited internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle. The invention relates to an internal combustion engine, which is connected on the exhaust port side to an exhaust gas aftertreatment system in which a first exhaust gas aftertreatment component is arranged in the flow direction of the exhaust gas flow, an external heating component is arranged downstream of the first exhaust gas aftertreatment component, and a second exhaust gas aftertreatment component is further arranged downstream of the first exhaust gas aftertreatment component. A component temperature of the exhaust gas aftertreatment component and a current conversion power of the exhaust gas aftertreatment component are determined. The component temperature and the current conversion power as well as the load demand for the internal combustion engine are determined. An external heating device is activated if the determined component temperature of the second exhaust gas aftertreatment component is below a first threshold temperature and the conversion power of the first exhaust gas aftertreatment component is expected to be insufficient for the determined load demand for the internal combustion engine to ensure a complete conversion of specified hazardous substances in the exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for exhaust gas aftertreatment of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle and to a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas aftertreatment system for implementing such a method. Background technique [0002] Current and future increasingly stringent emission regulations place high demands on the raw emissions of engines and the exhaust gas aftertreatment of internal combustion engines. In Otto engines, exhaust gas purification is effected in a known manner by means of a three-way catalytic converter and further catalytic converters and particle filters which are upstream or downstream of the three-way catalytic converter. Every device for catalytic exhaust gas cleaning needs to exceed a minimum temperature, the so-called light-off temperature, in order to be effective. During a cold start of the motor vehicle, the temperature level of the internal combustion engine and the compon...
