Abstract

A topical skin composition that includes a complex containing an effective amount of selected components to provide a defense against the various pathway mechanisms of reactive oxygen species. The composition is directed to the prevention of the adverse or detrimental effects of reactive oxygen species. The figure shows the results of skin erythema of a subject exposed to UV radiation after an application of the formulation in example 4.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] Because aging involves the human body, research on aging has increased as the population ages. For example, the treatment of skin aging manifested by the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, etc. has attracted a lot of attention. Skin symptoms of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, sagging and hyperpigmentation have been addressed by a variety of methods such as surgery, laser treatments and makeup. Cosmetic treatments include the use of a variety of creams and lotions to alter the effects of skin aging. Numerous documents in the prior art report the use of a single essential component to protect against one of several deleterious effects of aging. For example, one strategy is to use one or more hydroxy acids or retinoic acid to stimulate skin cell regrowth without the use of other components.
