Abstract

The invention provides an active pixel and an image sensor. The active pixel and the image sensor of the invention have two working modes: a high illumination mode and a low illumination mode. The present invention determines whether to connect the auxiliary capacitor at the floating node according to the amount of light on the image sensor. Wherein, the amount of light on the image sensor can be measured by various methods. After the light intensity is determined, it can be determined whether to turn on the auxiliary capacitor (high light condition) or not to turn on the auxiliary capacitor (low light condition) by comparing it with a threshold value.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to image sensors, and more particularly, the present invention relates to an image sensor employing pixels whose capacitance can be changed according to the intensity of incident light. Background technique [0002] Image sensors have become ubiquitous, and they are widely used in digital cameras, cellular phones, security cameras, medical equipment, automobiles, and other applications. The technology of manufacturing image sensors, especially CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) image sensors continues to develop rapidly. For example, the requirements of high resolution and low power consumption promote the further miniaturization and integration of image sensors. [0003] As pixels get smaller, it becomes more difficult for the pixels to output a signal of sufficient intensity to be easily interpreted by subsequent signal processing. Furthermore, image sensors are required to operate in a wide range of light ...
