[0040] Styrene or vinyltoluene is reacted with elemental sulfur or SEAM pellets. SEAM pellets consist primarily of sulfur and are available from Shell Canada Limited.
[0041] 50 g of each sulfur sample was mixed with 50 g of hot PG64-28 grade bitumen in a metal can and placed on a hot plate set at a surface temperature of 160°C. Immediately after mixing the sulfur sample and the bitumen, a filter paper lid with a central hole in the top was placed over the metal canister. Hydrogen sulfide release was measured with a Draeger MiniWarn gas meter fitted with a pump through a hose inserted into the gas space of the tank. The hydrogen sulfide measurement range is 1-100ppm.
