Abstract

The invention discloses a method and a system for measuring water content of crude oil by using a Rayleigh scattering principle. A digital processor controls a digital-to-analog converter to generate swept signals; and the swept signals and carrier signals generated by a local oscillator are mixed to generate emission signals. The emission signals pass through a first directional coupler, a part of energy flows to a first power detector, and the rest energy is radiated to an oil and water mixture through a second directional coupler and a probe; Rayleigh scattering phenomenon is generated by the action of oil drop small particles in the mixture and incident electromagnetic waves; and the probe receives scattered waves back to the second directional coupler, and couples scattered energy toa second power detector. The digital processor controls a double-channel analog-to-digital converter to acquire the output of the two power detectors, and calculates the water content of the crude oil according to the intensity of emission waves and the scattered waves; and the water content of the crude oil is output through a communication interface module. When the water content of the crude oil is higher than 70 percent, the method and the system still precisely measure the water content of the crude oil, and can be used for measuring water content of crude oil in producing wells and the change of water content of crude oil in different stratums.
