Embodiment Construction

[0015] refer to figure 1 , a perspective view of a fluidic material distribution system is shown generally at 10 . Container 14 (also referred to herein as a "hopper") stores flowable material 18 prior to dispensing. The fluid material 18 may be powder or other substances meeting the conditions disclosed in this specification. The hopper 14 is structurally supported above the base 22 by a bracket 38 which is also attached to the base 22 . The base 22 is made up of three plates together and in figure 1 The middle is identified as an upper plate 26 , a middle plate 30 and a lower plate 34 . In one embodiment, and as shown, the plates are bolted together. It will be appreciated that other forms of fastening such as clips, adhesives and clamping devices may also be used herein. Motor 42 and gearbox 46 are attached to base 22 and are in operative communication with flowable material 18 after flowable material 18 exits hopper 14, as will be referred to figure 2 with image 3...

Abstract

Disclosed herein is a system (10) for distributing a fluidic mass (18). The system (10) includes, a receptacle (14), receptive of the fluidic mass (18) to be distributed, an opening (50), fluidicallyconnected to the receptacle (14), a surface (62) in operable communication with the opening (50) and receptive of a distribution of the fluidic mass (18) from the receptacle (14) such that a rate of the distribution of the fluidic mass (18) is determined by a speed of the surface (62) relative to the opening (50), and a substratum (102). The substratum (102) is positioned below the surface (62) and movable relative to the surface (62), and movement of the substratum (102) relative to the surface (62) controls a thickness (106) of a base layer (110) of the fluidic mass (18) formed on the substratum (102).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to apparatus and methods for dispensing fluid materials or powders. More specifically, the present invention relates to the control of the dispense rate of fluid materials. Background technique [0002] Many industries include processing steps that distribute flowable materials in a uniform thin layer onto moving surfaces. Manufacturing solar cells for rooftop power generation is an example of such an industry. The manufacture of solar cells involves melting and recrystallizing layers of silicon powder. The powder is typically placed on trays (also called "placement plates") that travel through a furnace with a controlled atmosphere to make items such as silicon wafers for solar cells. [0003] The commercial success of solar cells is largely influenced by the efficiency of the solar cells. Efficiency, or what ratio of electricity is produced relative to the amount of solar energy available, depends largely on the dime...
