Abstract

Provided is a power transmission device which allows a torque converter to be miniaturized and the freedom of layout inside said torque converter to be further improved. The device is equipped with a torque converter (1) having a torque amplifying function, a clutch means (3) which is enabled when the vehicle is moving forward and that has a first clutch means (3a) that transmits the drive force of an engine to drive wheels via the drivetrain of the torque converter (1) and a second clutch means (3b) that transmits the drive force of the engine to the drive wheels without involving the drivetrain of the torque converter (1), a selection means (4) for selectively activating the first clutch means (3a) or the second clutch means (3b) according to the vehicle status, and a damper mechanism (7) capable of reducing torque variation which is provided in the drivetrain between the engine (E); and the torque converter (1).
