Abstract

A shape memory spring coil is a spiral structural member made of shape memory polymer material. A manufacture method of the shape memory spring coil includes firstly manufacturing polymer threads by the process of extrusion molding; secondly, manufacturing the thread-type shape memory spring coil by a mold into a spiral shape (permanent shape); and thirdly, fixing the shape of the polymer into a straight fine-thread shape (temporary shape) by a proper method. An application method of the shape memory spring coil includes conveying the straight fine-threaded spring coil to an aneurysm cavity through a micro catheter, the fine-threaded spring coil automatically restores to the original spiral structure at human body temperature, and accordingly aneurysm is packed. The spring coil made of polymer material with biocompatibility compared with metal is small in density, low in rigidity and soft in texture, compact packing rate of the aneurysm cavity can be increased, risk of perforating aneurysm by the spring coil in operation is lowered, damage of peripheral nerves and vessels, which is caused by gravity press after embolism of the spring coil, is reduced, manufacture process is simple, and cost is low.
