Arrangement and method for converting an input signal into an output signal and for generating a predefined transfer behavior between said input signal and said output signal

An arrangement and method for converting an input signal z(t) into a mechanical or acoustical output signal p(t) comprising an electro-magnetic transducer using a coil at a fixed position and a moving armature, a sensor, a parameter measurement device and a controller. The parameter measurement device identifies parameter information P of an nonlinear model of the transducer considering and the saturation and the geometry of the magnetic elements. A diagnostic system reveals the physical causes of signal distortion and generates information for optimizing the design and manufacturing process of this transducer. The controller compensates for nonlinear signal distortion, stabilizes the rest position of the armature and protects the transducer against mechanical and thermal overload.

Non-Pneumatic Tire

A structurally supported tire includes a ground contacting tread portion, a reinforced annular band disposed radially inward of the tread portion, and a plurality of web spokes extending transversely across and radially inward from the reinforced annular band and anchored in a wheel or hub. The reinforced annular band comprises an elastomeric shear layer, at least a first membrane adhered to the radially inward extent of the elastomeric shear layer and at least a second membrane adhered to the radially outward extent of the elastomeric shear layer. Each of the membranes has a longitudinal tensile modulus sufficiently greater than the shear modulus of the shear layer, and a longitudinal compression modulus of a second membrane is at least equal to the longitudinal tensile modulus of a first membrane so that when under load the ground contacting portion of the tire deforms to a flat contact region through shear strain in the shear layer while maintaining constant the length of the membranes. The web spokes transmit load forces between the annular band and the hub through tension in the web spokes not connected to the ground contacting portion of the tire.

Embolic filter frame having looped support strut elements

InactiveUS20040093012A1Longitudinal compliance be enhanceImprove sealingSurgeryDilatorsEngineeringLower degree
An improved embolic filter frame having looped support struts. The frame configuration provides enhanced longitudinal compliance, improved sealing against a vessel wall, low profile delivery, and a short deployed length. The looped support struts have a high degree of "radial" stiffness with a low degree of "longitudinal" stiffness. In the deployed state, the frame exerts a relatively high stress onto a vessel wall to maintain an effective seal, yet remains compliant in the longitudinal direction. Minor displacements of the support wire or catheter are therefore not translated to the filter. The looped support struts elongate when tensioned and assume a compressed and essentially linear form. While constrained in this linear state by a delivery catheter, the support struts exert minimal stress onto the delivery system. The overall delivery profile and stiffness are therefore reduced. When the delivery catheter constraint is removed during deployment, the struts "snap open" and assume a looped configuration which exert a high degree of force onto the vessel wall, creating an enhanced filter to vessel wall seal. In addition, the looped struts and the central collar connecting the support struts to the support wire, are positioned essentially within the plane of the filter opening. The overall deployed length of the embolic filter is therefore reduced.

Treated tissue products having increased strength

Tissue products are disclosed containing an additive composition. The additive composition, for instance, comprises an aqueous dispersion containing an olefin polymer, an ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer, or mixtures thereof. The olefin polymer may comprise an interpolymer of ethylene and octene, while the ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer may comprise ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer. The additive composition may also contain a dispersing agent, such as a fatty acid. The additive composition may be incorporated into the tissue web by being combined with the fibers that are used to form the web. Alternatively, the additive composition may be topically applied to the web after the web has been formed. For instance, in one embodiment, the additive composition may be applied to the web as a creping adhesive during a creping operation. The additive composition may improve the strength of the tissue web without substantially affecting the perceived softness of the web in an adverse manner.

Active/passive distributed absorber for vibration and sound radiation control

The active / passive absorber for extended vibration and sound radiation control includes principally two layers. The first layer has a low stiffness per unit area which allows motion in the direction perpendicular to its main plane. The second layer is principally a mass layer. These two combined layers have a frequency of resonance close to one of the main structure. The dynamic behavior of the coupled system makes the active / passive absorber a passive absorbe; however, the first layer can be electrically actuated to induce motion in the direction perpendicular to its main plane. This addition property induces and / or changes the motion of the mass layer and therefore improves the dynamic properties of the active / passive absorber system.
