The present invention relates to self-cleaning surfaces having improved mechanical stability and a process for the production thereof. The present invention is achieved by producing self-cleaning, hydrophobic, structured surfaces having mixtures of particles, which are fixed on their surface and which comprise structure-producing particles selected from semimetal or metal oxides, silicas and metal powders, and wax particles. Structured surfaces that are structured by such mixtures of particles are distinguished by substantially higher mechanical stability of the structure and are therefore especially suitable for the production of self-cleaning surfaces, which are exposed to relatively high mechanical loads, such as, for example, the surfaces of tarpaulins, awnings, greenhouse elements, conservatories or truck tarpaulins.

A fastening assembly and method to releasably secure a panel of a novel screen room enclosure to a structure. The fastening assembly includes a clip having a channel portion fastened to a flat portion, the channel portion having an opening adapted to receive an edge of a panel, and, a locking fastener having an elongated locking member adjustable between a first position and a second position. The flat portion of the clip comprises a hole for accepting the locking fastener such that the locking member can pass through the hole when the locking member is in the first position, and cannot pass through the hole when the locking member is in the second position. An adjustable watercraft awning includes a first base, a second base, a first frame member, a second frame member, an actuator, and a flexible cover. The first base is adapted to mount on a first side of a watercraft, and the second base is adapted to mount on a second side of the watercraft. The first frame member is pivotally coupled to a rear region of each of the first and second bases, and is movable between a lowered position and a raised position. The second frame member is pivotally coupled to a front region of each of the first and second bases, and is continuously movable between a lowered position and a first raised position and also between the first raised position and a second raised position. Transparent egg cartons suitable for being made from a variety of transparent polymeric materials and particularly from polylactic acid or other biodegradable polymers are described. The egg cartons use a “W” shaped hinge or box hinge element for hingedly connecting the lid to the tray or a flap to the tray. The flap is made with lattice struts to increase the lateral strength thereof, and contains at least three button tabs for interlocking the flap with the lid. The lateral most button tabs are located about ⅛th the length of the flap from the ends of the flap. The egg cartons have an awning portion that extends from the front surface of the lid to cover the “W” shaped hinge or box hinge when the lid is closed. A space is provided between the edge of the awning and the hinge for a consumer to place a finger for disengaging the lid from the flap.

A rigid retractable patio or window awning includes a number of rigid panels disposed in a tiered relationship with each other. Each lower panel is slidably connected with its respective upper panel via a set of slides. The top panel remains stationary. An awning operating mechanism includes arms connected via swivel joints with the bottom panel. Each arm also is connected via a threaded nut with a drive screw. Wrinkled fabrics comprising ultraviolet absorbers are disclosed which provide improvements in ultraviolet transmission, wearer comfort, and cost over those of the prior art. The preferred fabric is polyester and the preferred UV absorbers are chlorobenzotriazoles. The polyester is wrinkled permanently so as to provide an extra barrier to ultraviolet radiation from solely utilizing UV absorbers alone. This wrinkled product is also more comfortable to a wearer, particularly in warm weather or hotter climates. Other non-apparel uses are also contemplated including tents, awnings, and crowd covers. A method of making such a fabric is also disclosed comprising stuffing a jet dyeing machine with a more than normal load amount of fabric and eventually heat setting such resultant wrinkles into the finished product.

A recessed awning bead encased with the fabric covering material chosen for the awning is contoured to, and fit into, a novel channel in the awning frame members. The awning bead allows for uniform weathering and fading of all visible awning parts. Such an improved awning is more aesthetically pleasing because no part of the seam protrudes above the plane of the awning surface. A narrowed neck of the channel in the awning frame member maintains the awning bead within the channel and thus slightly below the exterior awning surface in order to maintain a consistent surface between panel sections.

A retractable awning cover for a slide out unit on a recreational vehicle, mobile home, travel trailer or the like includes a scissors arm support system that elevates a support bar running longitudinally of the vehicle to establish a gable shape for the awning cover when extended. The support bar is automatically lowered during retraction so as to be alignable with the scissors arms that support the support bar.

An outdoor umbrella includes an awning, an umbrella frame, an illumination system, and a solar energy collection system. The solar energy collection system includes a supporting adjustor and a solar energy collector. The supporting adjustor has an upper pivot portion, and a lower retention portion detachably mounted on the top portion of the supporting post. The solar energy collector, which is electrically connected with the illumination system, is pivotally mounted on the pivot portion of the supporting adjustor at a position above the awning, wherein the solar energy collector is adapted to selectively adjust a tilt angle with respect to the supporting post for directly facing towards sunlight to maximize solar energy collection so as to supply electrical power to the illumination system.

A retractable awning includes a roller reversibly driven and mounted within a housing for support on a support structure and both inner and outer sets of pivotally interconnected support arms for supporting an awning canopy when extended. The egg cartons use a “W” shaped hinge or box hinge element for hingedly connecting the lid to the tray or a flap to the tray. The invention relates to a circular awning with a cable dome and a spatial steel truss being combined and a construction method of the circular awning. The circular awning comprises an awning roof and a main body; the circular awning is an approximately spherical segment surface; the awning roof is of a cable dome structure; the main body is of a spatial steel truss structure; the bottom end of the cable dome is fixedly connected with the top end of the spatial steel truss structure. The spatial steel truss structure comprises at least one layer of weft curved beam which is a polygonal spatial steel truss. The spatial steel truss structure comprises at least two layers of weft curved beams and radial curved pillars; the radial curved pillars are connected with each layer of weft curved beams, and every two adjacent radial curved pillars are connected through weft pull rods which are arranged at intervals according to fixed latitudes. The circular awning disclosed by the invention combines tensile and rigid structures, integrates inward tension of the tensile structure and outward thrust of the spatial steel truss structure, and realizes self-balance of inside and outside stresses; the stress of an arched steel structure is reduced, the integral structural stability is better, and meanwhile, the horizontal thrust of the lower part of the steel truss structure and a support is reduced, the maintenance cost of late-stage anticorrosion is reduced, and the construction efficiency is high.

An apparatus and method for retracting an awning. A sensor detects an awning acceleration caused by wind impacting the awning, and generates a signal having an amplitude corresponding thereto. When the signal exceeds a certain threshold, the awning is retracted. The signal's amplitude may be converted into a frequency, and the frequency compared to the threshold. The signal typically must exceed the threshold for a set period of time to trigger awning retraction. A second threshold may dictate a maximum instantaneous or peak acceleration; when the signal exceeds this second threshold, regardless of the duration during which the second threshold is exceeded, the awning is retracted.

An outdoor umbrella for electrical appliances includes a supporting frame, an awning frame, and an electro-control panel. An articulated arm for awnings is disclosed. It comprises an arm and a forearm connected by an articulated joint by means of respective articulation configurations at adjacent ends. The articulation configuration at the end of the forearm comprising a core with an exterior surface around a shaft, and the articulation configuration at the end of the arm comprising a surrounding wall around the core. A bearing is incorporated between the core and said wall to guide a relative rotation between the two. There is a flexible pulling element inside the arm, with a first end linked to an elastic element secured to a fixed point on the arm and a second end secured in the core. This element passes through a connection in the configuration and is partially housed in a space between the core and the wall.

The present invention discloses a vehicle self-collapsible cover including generally a protective awning, an extension-structure, and a storage-case. The protective awning comprises two or four rolls of thin and tough material able to substantially cover the vehicles body. The extension-structure is driven by a central-lead-screw having two kinds of thread including right-handed thread and left-handed thread so as to be able to extend said rolls of awning. In one embodiment of the invention, the device is divided into two symmetrical halves joined together by a hinge and therefore foldable. Each half of the storage-case is supported by its own supporting structures and respectively capable to store two rolls of awning and one extension-structure. In another embodiment of the invention, the device is one unit which is assembled either fixedly by clamping or actively by screws on the top of vehicle. The self-collapsible cover may be operated manually or by motors. It also can be controlled by a remote.

A canopy, particularly a pavilion, a pergola, a tent or an awning, having a roof, a support structure for the roof and an illumination device associated with the support structure, is characterized, with regard to the object of achieving reliable operation of the apparatus, a particularly appealing visual impression and the greatest possible protection for the illumination device, in that the illumination device is associated with the support structure essentially integrally.

A retractable motor-driven awning can be extended or retracted by energizing the motor in one direction or another. A manually operable system, however, is also employed for rotating the awning by hand in a direction to retract the awning in the event the motor drive becomes inoperable. As another example, it is possible to configure the three-dimensional curtain sheet fabric 2 by replacing the rear bands 110 with mesh sheets 10. Therefore, the invention can easily control the awning and floodlighting without a glimmering phonemonon by the three-dimensional curtain sheet having front connection bands or front and rear connection bands, and have good ventilation and transparency since floodlighting portions are opened to the front or opened back and forth when the floodlighting portions are formed. Furthermore, the invention can be manufactured easily in the integrated-weaving type and show superior durability.

A retractable awning having one edge of an awning canopy fixed and a movable opposite edge with the opposite edge being secured to a rotatable roll bar includes a floating mounting for the roll bar so that a bias on the roll bar urging the roll bar to rotate toward a retracted position of the awning permits the wrapped fabric on the roll bar to remain in engagement with an engagement wall of a mounting chassis so that the roll bar is prevented from sagging along its length regardless of the number of wraps of fabric about the roll bar.
