An awning or overhang is a secondary covering attached to the exterior wall of a building. It is typically composed of canvas woven of acrylic, cotton or polyester yarn, or vinyl laminated to polyester fabric that is stretched tightly over a light structure of aluminium, iron or steel, possibly wood or transparent material (used to cover solar thermal panels in the summer, but that must allow as much light as possible in the winter). The configuration of this structure is something of a truss, space frame or planar frame. Awnings are also often constructed of aluminium understucture with aluminium sheeting. These aluminium awnings are often used when a fabric awning is not a practical application where snow load as well as wind loads may be a factor.

Self-cleaning surfaces comprising elevations formed by hydrophobic particles and having improved mechanical strength

The present invention relates to self-cleaning surfaces having improved mechanical stability and a process for the production thereof. The present invention is achieved by producing self-cleaning, hydrophobic, structured surfaces having mixtures of particles, which are fixed on their surface and which comprise structure-producing particles selected from semimetal or metal oxides, silicas and metal powders, and wax particles. Structured surfaces that are structured by such mixtures of particles are distinguished by substantially higher mechanical stability of the structure and are therefore especially suitable for the production of self-cleaning surfaces, which are exposed to relatively high mechanical loads, such as, for example, the surfaces of tarpaulins, awnings, greenhouse elements, conservatories or truck tarpaulins.

Textured and printed membrane that simulates fabric

A textured and printed membrane has an embossed top layer with a protective coating, a fabric layer, a printed bottom layer with a protective coating, where the layers are adhered with a PVC plastisol. The printing pattern matches the embossing, such that the membrane has the appearance of cloth on both sides. The textured vinyl membrane composite has a thickness of from 10 to 35 mils. The membrane can be fitted on an awning to display illuminated (white / opaque) graphics (lettering or design). The top layer is preferably compounded PVC formulated with a colorant. The bottom layer is also PVC, typically formulated with a flame retardant package, such as antimony trioxide or brominated compounds, aluminum trihydrate, magnesium hydroxide, and the like to suppress the spread of an ignited flame. Both top and bottom layers can have heat stabilizers and lubricants to improve processing of the PVC.

InactiveUS6025284AReduce ultraviolet radiation transmissionLow production costGarment special featuresSynthetic fibresWrinkle skinPolyester
Wrinkled fabrics comprising ultraviolet absorbers are disclosed which provide improvements in ultraviolet transmission, wearer comfort, and cost over those of the prior art. The preferred fabric is polyester and the preferred UV absorbers are chlorobenzotriazoles. The polyester is wrinkled permanently so as to provide an extra barrier to ultraviolet radiation from solely utilizing UV absorbers alone. This wrinkled product is also more comfortable to a wearer, particularly in warm weather or hotter climates. Other non-apparel uses are also contemplated including tents, awnings, and crowd covers. A method of making such a fabric is also disclosed comprising stuffing a jet dyeing machine with a more than normal load amount of fabric and eventually heat setting such resultant wrinkles into the finished product.

Awning bead and staple system

An improved system of virtually seamless connected awning sections with a consistent visual appearance between the sections. A recessed awning bead encased with the fabric covering material chosen for the awning is contoured to, and fit into, a novel channel in the awning frame members. The awning bead allows for uniform weathering and fading of all visible awning parts. Such an improved awning is more aesthetically pleasing because no part of the seam protrudes above the plane of the awning surface. A narrowed neck of the channel in the awning frame member maintains the awning bead within the channel and thus slightly below the exterior awning surface in order to maintain a consistent surface between panel sections.

Apparatus and method for retracting awning

An apparatus and method for retracting an awning. A sensor detects an awning acceleration caused by wind impacting the awning, and generates a signal having an amplitude corresponding thereto. When the signal exceeds a certain threshold, the awning is retracted. The signal's amplitude may be converted into a frequency, and the frequency compared to the threshold. The signal typically must exceed the threshold for a set period of time to trigger awning retraction. A second threshold may dictate a maximum instantaneous or peak acceleration; when the signal exceeds this second threshold, regardless of the duration during which the second threshold is exceeded, the awning is retracted.

Integrated weaving type three-dimensional curtain sheet fabric having bands and manufacturing method thereof

The present invention relates to a three-dimensional curtain sheet fabric having front and rear bands in the integrated-weaving type, and the invention provides three-dimensional curtain sheets 2 and 200 in the integrated triple-woven type on which front and rear bands 114 and 110 isolated at certain intervals right and left are arranged on the front and the back of a plurality of awning sheets 112 which are arranged up and down, wherein rear connecting portions 116 for connecting the central awning sheets 112 and the rear bands 110 in the warp and weft integrated-weaving type are formed on upper side edges of the central awning sheets 112 while front connecting portions 118 for connecting the front bands 114 and the central awning sheets 112 in the warp and weft integrated-weaving type are formed on lower side edges of the central awning sheets 112, thereby configuring the three-dimensional curtain sheet fabric 200. As another example, it is possible to configure the three-dimensional curtain sheet fabric 2 by replacing the rear bands 110 with mesh sheets 10. Therefore, the invention can easily control the awning and floodlighting without a glimmering phonemonon by the three-dimensional curtain sheet having front connection bands or front and rear connection bands, and have good ventilation and transparency since floodlighting portions are opened to the front or opened back and forth when the floodlighting portions are formed. Furthermore, the invention can be manufactured easily in the integrated-weaving type and show superior durability.
