Abstract

The name of the invention is strip wound stator winding arrangement with long pitch and short pitch coils. The stator assembly includes a plurality of stator slots defining a plurality of slot layers. The assembly includes a plurality of return members, each having respective first and second legs positioned in a respective one of the channel levels. Each return piece is one of a short pitch coil, a long pitch coil, and a full pitch coil. Short pitch, long pitch and full pitch coils are configured to extend over first, second and third numbers of stator slots respectively. The return bends can be divided into first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth return bend layers. One of the return loop layers includes at least one short pitch coil and the other of the return loop layers includes at least one long pitch coil. The first, third and fifth return loop layers may each include at least two short pitch coils; while the second, fourth and sixth return loop layers may each include at least two long pitch coils.
