An embodiment of the invention provides a method and system for switching of network television channels. The method comprises the steps that a switching request of a target channel is received; when decoding information is configured for the target channel in advance, streaming media data corresponding to the target channel are downloaded and played according to the decoding information; a feature channel associated with the target channel is calculated; corresponding decoding information is configured for the feature channel. According to the method and system for switching of the network television channels, in the channel switching process, when the decoding information is configured for the target channel in advance, decoding operation and playing operation are conducted by means of the decoding information which is configured in advance, and therefore the time needed by configuration of the decoding information in the channel switching process is shortened, and the switching speed of the network television channels is increased.
