Embodiment 1

[0087] Several samples of different contaminants were harvested from the production line. Contaminants include red bag material, white bag material, orange fishing nets, yellow fishing nets, blue fishing nets, and seagrass.

[0088] Place the above contaminants in a 500ml beaker. About 400 ml of water was added to the beaker, followed by stirring.

[0089] The beakers were then left for 5 minutes before visual evaluation.

[0090] It was observed that red bag material, white bag material, orange fishing net, yellow fishing net, blue fishing net and some seaweed were floating on the surface of the water.

Embodiment 2

[0092] The method of Example 1 was repeated using the same contaminants cut to different lengths. Contaminants have a minimum length of 3mm.

[0093] It was observed that all contaminants floated on the surface regardless of size and length. This suggests that the size and length of the contaminants have no effect.

Embodiment 3

[0095] Wet samples of chitosan were obtained from the current processing line. It was visually determined that there was red fibrous contamination in the material.

[0096] A sample of this material was added to a 2 L beaker. The beaker was filled with water and allowed to stand for 5 minutes. Thereafter, visual evaluation was performed.

[0097] It was observed that the red fibers floated on the surface of the water and the chitosan sank to the bottom of the beaker. Visual observation detected some residual red fibers entrapped in the chitosan that settled to the bottom of the beaker.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the removal of contamination from a raw material comprising a desirable material, such as chitin and / or chitosan. The process comprises mixing a raw material with a liquid, wherein the raw material comprises at least one contaminant and at least one desirable material, and wherein the at least one desirable material is capable of absorbing the liquid; and allowing the at least one contaminant and at least one desirable material to separate in a separation container.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for removing contaminants from raw materials, and more particularly, to a method for removing contaminants from raw materials containing desired materials such as chitin and / or chitosan. Background technique [0002] Chitosan is a derivative of solid waste from shellfish processing and can be extracted from fungal cultures. Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide. Chitosan consists of randomly distributed units of β-(1-4)-linked D-glucosamine (deacetylated units) and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (acetylated units). Chitosan has many uses, both commercial and medical. For example, chitosan is used in agriculture as a seed treatment and biopesticide; in winemaking as a clarifying agent; in the food industry as a supplement; in limiting fat absorption as a dietary aid; Healing polyurethane paint coatings in the industry. [0003] In medicine, chitosan and its derivatives (such as chitosan salts) can be used as hemostati...
