Embodiment Construction

[0031] The invention is particularly useful for MSSP (Multi-Service Switching Platform) equipment, which is an evolution of the ADM (Add-Drop Multiplexing) concept. MSSP was conceived as an upgrade to SDH / Sonet or OTH to allow transport of various types of Layer-2 clients: ATM, Fiber Channel, DVB, and Ethernet. Typically, Layer-2 (L2) and SDH / OTH functions are only loosely coupled. Conventional implementations provide some L2 functionality (performance monitoring, filtering, aggregation, bridging protocols...) to a slice (line card) with an Ethernet interface. However, these functions are not shared with other similar blades and are not integrated with SDH / OTH data plane and management. L2 traffic is encapsulated in SDH / OTH containers using different techniques for bandwidth optimization (eg, virtual concatenation) and for frame delimitation (eg, GFP). The services coupled by the Ethernet interface are connected to the MSSP matrix using the same method used by conventional S...

Abstract

The present document relates to a transmission system (100) for transmitting data comprising an Ethernet network portion (110), a transport network portion (120) and a switching component (130) coupling said Ethernet network portion (110) with said transport network portion ( 120); the Ethernet network portion (110) comprising at least two Ethernet line cards (111, 112) each with at least one Ethernet interface (111a, 112a) for providing redundant communication links within the Ethernet network portion (110); the Ethernet line cards (111, 112) being configured to transmit information regarding the status of their at least one Ethernet interface (111a, 112a) to the switching component (130); and the switching component (130) being configured to receive and analyze information regarding the status of the Ethernet interfaces (111a, 112a) of the Ethernet line cards (111, 112) and route the data to the transport network portion (120) based on said received information.

Description

technical field [0001] This article deals with data transfer systems. In particular, this paper relates to data transmission systems that provide improved failure recovery. Background technique [0002] Typically, data transfer systems are used to transfer data between multiple end users. For example, a data transmission system may be configured to transmit data related to multiple Ethernet services between multiple end users. In order to avoid data loss due to failure situations that occur, data transmission systems provide protection mechanisms for rerouting data. For example, the data transmission system may comprise at least one backup transmission path which can be used for data transmission in case the active transmission path is destroyed. Currently available protection mechanisms are configured to handle certain failure scenarios, but cannot address more complex failure outages within data transmission systems. [0003] Therefore, there is a need to provide an im...
