Athletic performance monitoring systems include components for sensing performance data and/or displaying desired information to users. Electronic interface systems facilitate transfer of the data from the performance sensing system to a display device, e.g., to enable the display of athletic performance data on an electronic display device, including conventional electronic display devices that are known and commercially available (e.g., cellular telephones, PDAs, pagers, beepers, MP3 or other audio players, radios, portable televisions, portable DVD players, other video playing devices, watches, etc.). The sensing systems, as well as any data transfer systems associated therewith, may be included as part of an article of footwear, an article of clothing, a piece of athletic equipment, or the like, or even included as part of the interface device.

The system is implemented as a set of software modules (SM) that can be exchanged to change the behavior of the VC. The VC is driven by a CPU emulator, and can run any operating system (virtual operating system, VOS) that is supported by the available SM's. The system is designed to log accesses to system resources and the nature of these accesses. The system is particularly useful for determining whether an executable or file contains an unknown virus, with a very low risk of false positives. In one implementation, the present invention improves processes used by enterprises to track, manage, and troubleshoot performance of network applications across distributed networks. A streaming measurement agent designed to experience, measure, and report on a media stream as an actual end user would experience the stream. Preferably, agent resides transparently within a streaming media player itself so that it can monitor stream packet flows within the player as the measured streams are being played. In an illustrative embodiment, the agent comprises a performance monitoring module (PMM), which is software that resides in an interface between an existing core module and a renderer of a media player. The agent PMM intercepts each useful packet as it goes from the core to the renderer and, as a result, it is able to compute quality metrics about the playback. The agent functions “transparently” to the media player by presenting the core with an application programming interface (API) that emulates the API that the renderer normally presents to the core. Thus, when the core believes it is calling the renderer, it is actually calling the agent PMM, which can then receive all the packets from the core and process them. After computing relevant performance metrics using the packets it receives, the agent PMM calls the renderer. A set of performance agents can be managed by a service provider to enable a content provider to determine how a stream is perceived by end users.

A process control system uses a data collection and distribution system and an asset utilization suite to collect data or information pertaining to the assets of a process plant from various sources or functional areas of the plant including, for example, the process control functional areas, the maintenance functional areas and the process performance monitoring functional areas. According to the present invention, execution circuitry within the multithreaded processor executes instructions in an active thread among first and second concurrent threads, while buffering circuitry buffers instructions and/or data of an inactive one of the first and second concurrent threads. The invention may comprise an analytics application, a primary device and, optionally, one or more secondary devices or third-party devices for sensing characteristics of the performance of an activity or the environment in which it is performed.
