The opening 7 has, for example, a diameter d of at least 0.5 mm. The openings 7 are here arranged spaced apart from one another in the sheath, wherein the distance between adjacent openings 7 is preferably significantly greater than the diameter d of the openings 7 in order not to impair the stability of the light guide 1 und...

Abstract

An elongated, hollow light guide (1) is described, as said light guide can be used in particular in photobioreactors, for supplying phototrophic organisms with light and nutrients. The light guide (1) has a sheath (3) of transparent material surrounding a hollow core (5). The hollow core has a diameter of at least 1 mm, preferably at least 3 mm or 1 cm. A plurality of openings (7) with a diameter of at least 0.5 mm, preferably at least 1 mm, are formed in the sheath (3). The light can propagate through the transparent sheath and preferably exit laterally ( 19 ) along the entire light guide ( 1 ). Nutrients (15) can be conducted through the hollow core (5) into the interior of the photobioreactor. Conversely, it is also possible to pump a part of the solution mixed with the organism through the hollow wick ( 5 ), for example in order to analyze it.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a specially constructed hollow light guide and light guide device. Furthermore, the invention relates to a photobioreactor in which such a light guide or such a light guide is used. The invention also relates to a method for operating a photobioreactor and a method for producing a light guide which can be advantageously applied in a photobioreactor. Background technique [0002] Phototrophic organisms are the smallest organisms, for example in the form of microorganisms, which are able to directly use light as a source of energy for their metabolism. Phototrophic organisms include, for example, certain plants, mosses, microalgae, macroalgae, cyanobacteria, and porphyra. [0003] For various purposes it can be desirable to be able to produce biomass in the form of algae in large quantities and at low cost. For example, such biomass can be used to generate alternative biofuels, eg for use in the transport sector. [0004] In ...
