The invention discloses a novel valve mechanism for an engine, which comprises a cylinder body, a piston, a crankshaft, a connecting rod and a sparking plug, and the structure of an air inlet valve shaft and an exhaust valve shaft is adopted; the air inlet valve shaft and the exhaust valve shaft are provided with rotary valves, an avoiding notch as an airflow passage is arranged on one side of the rotary valves, and a time sequence of the air inlet rotary valve and the exhaust port rotary valve is respectively controlled by a drive mechanism, such that the air inlet rotary valve and the exhaust port rotary valve are periodically ventilated or closed. According to the novel valve mechanism, a plurality of hollow cylindrical arc surfaces of one hollow shaft are provided with openings as the air inlet and exhaust port, metal sealing rings are arranged on both sides of the rotary valves, metal sealing strips fitted with a cylindrical valve are arranged on left and right sides of a valve seat, and air inlet and exhaust passages are regularly opened and closed according to a firing order of the engine and working cycle requirements of respective cylinders, such that fresh air enters the cylinder timely, and exhaust gas is exhausted from the cylinder timely.
