Abstract

The invention relates to a method for checking the functionality of a motor vehicle (10) with a headlight (12) which comprises a laser (14) for generating light, said light being used to excite a converter (16) in order to emit converted light, wherein the converted light is emitted by the headlight (12) in order to generate a specifiable light distribution (18) on a surface (20) in a region surrounding the motor vehicle (10), and the specifiable light distribution (18) is set by a controller (22) of the headlight (12). The aim of the invention is to check the state of the converter (16). A test pattern (26, 30) is set as the light distribution (18) by the controller (22); the test pattern (26, 30) is detected on the surface (20) by means of an optical detection device (24) of the motor vehicle (10); and the detected test pattern (26, 30) is compared with a specified reference pattern by an analyzing device (28) of the motor vehicle (10). The invention further relates to a motor vehicle (10) which is designed to carry out such a method.
