Embodiment 1
[0029] 60 g of 1233zd(Z) was dissolved in 40 g of HF to form a heteroazeotropic mixture. The experiment was performed at 25°C and 14.6 psia.
Embodiment 2
[0031] Binary compositions containing only 1233zd(Z) and HF were mixed to form heteroazeotropic mixtures of different compositions. The vapor pressure of the mixture was measured at about 0°C, 25°C and 60°C and the following results were obtained.
[0032] Table 1 shows the vapor pressure measurements of 1233zd(Z) and HF as a function of HF weight percent composition at constant temperatures of about 0°C, 25°C, and 61°C. The data show that 1233zd(Z) and HF form a heterogeneous mixture.
[0033] Table 1 Pressure vs. composition measurements of 1233zd(Z) and HF at 0°C, 25°C and 60°C HF T = 0°C T = 25°C T = 60°C
[0034]
[0035] These data also show that the mixture is an azeotrope, since the vapor pressure of the mixture of 1233zd(Z) and HF at all mixing ratios shown is higher than that of 1233zd(Z) and HF alone (i.e., as in the first row when HF is 0wt% and 1233zd(Z) at 100 wt%, and the last row where 1233zd(Z) is 0 wt% and HF is 100 wt%) is higher. Table 1 data are also...
Embodiment 3
[0037] The azeotropic composition of the 1233zd(Z) / HF mixture was also confirmed by vapor-liquid-liquid equilibrium (VLLE) experiments. Here, 66.6 g of 1233zd(Z) were dissolved in 33.4 g of HF at 26° C. to form a heterogeneous mixture (by visual inspection). Vapor composition, top liquid (HF rich), and bottom liquid (organic) were sampled. The results show that the azeotropic composition is about 26±3 wt% HF at 26°C.
