[0040] The following examples are illustrative of embodiments of the invention and are not intended to limit the scope of the disclosed embodiments.

[0041]Experimental data were obtained to demonstrate the effect of hydrocarbon cracking reactions in combination with HGM. The catalytic reaction is carried out in a fixed bed flow reactor operated at atmospheric pressure. The reactor was charged with catalyst having a mass of 9 to 12 g, which was trayed and sieved to a diameter of 425-800 micrometers (μm). The catalyst was a ZSM-5 microporous molecular sieve purchased from Nankai University Catalyst Co. Before the catalytic reaction, the catalyst contains N 2 (120cm 3 min -1 ) to the desired reaction temperature and held overnight. The fixed bed flow reactor was heated to the desired reaction temperature using a 3-zone electric heater. At the desired reaction temperature (typically between 250-850°C), the reactants, which are selected from n-hexane, naphtha and formaldeh...

Abstract

A method of cracking a hydrocarbon feed which includes introducing vaporizing a hydrocarbon feed and a heat generating material (HGM) stream comprising at least one aldehyde or ketone to a cracking reactor. The hydrocarbon feed and the HGM stream are vaporized and may be vaporized prior or subsequent to introduction to the cracking reactor. The addition of the HGM to the endothermic cracking process provides the heat needed for cracking and helps the overall process to achieve thermal neutrality. The method includes cracking the hydrocarbon feed to produce a cracking product, where the cracking product comprises C1-C4 hydrocarbons and C5+ hydrocarbons.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application Serial No. 62 / 335,187, filed May 12, 2016, which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to processing of hydrocarbons, and in particular to a method of cracking a hydrocarbon feed with an exothermic material in conjunction with a hydrocarbon cracking process. Background technique [0004] Energy consumption is a significant obstacle in the light olefins industry. Hydrocarbon cracking is a highly endothermic process. During hydrocarbon cracking, the temperature of the reactor shell drops as the cracking reaction starts, because the start-up of the endothermic cracking process consumes heat faster than the reactor can add additional heat. Adding additional heat to maintain reactor temperature can add significantly to the cost of the hydrocarbon cracking operation. For example...
