Problems solved by technology

If care is not taken, it can make satellite deployment inefficient, resulting in higher costs and poor ground coverage
Additionally, if a satellite-based communication system is designed to serve periods or areas of highest demand, resources may remain idle during periods of lower demand and / or over areas with lower demand
In addition, conventional satellite-based communication systems designed for a specific level of demand may not be able to dynamically increase capacity in response to higher demand

[0026] The present disclosure including the figures are shown by way of example and not limitation.

[0027] The communication network may include one or more communication satellites and other devices, including ground-based communication devices and user terminals (or user equipment (UE)). One or more satellites may be used, for example, to deliver wireless services to portable electronic devices, home and / or office appliances, and other devices. For example, wireless services can be provided to handheld devices, wearable devices, set-top boxes, media devices, mobile terminals, computing devices, sensors, etc. exist figure 1 A schematic communication system with satellites is shown in . Such as figure 1 As shown, system 10 may include one or more constellations of communication satellites 22 . Satellites 22 may be placed in any / all of low Earth orbit (LEO) (eg, at an altitude of 500-1500 km or other suitable altitude), geosynchronous orbit, and / or medium Earth orbit (MEO...

Abstract

A satellite system can include one or more satellites that orbit the Earth. The one or more satellites may have satellite buses that support antenna arrays. The antenna arrays may include space fed arrays. Each space fed array may have an antenna feed array and an inner array that is coupled to a direct radiating array. The direct radiating array may operate in the same satellite band as the spacefed array, or upconversion and downconversion circuitry may be used to communicatively couple a direct radiating array that operates in a different satellite band to the space fed array. The satellites may have peripheral walls with corner fittings that can be selected to provide the satellite bus with particular leg strengths. This can reduce overall mass of the satellites in a payload fairing while accommodating different types of antenna arrays.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to Patent Application No. 15 / 672,122, filed August 8, 2017, which claims the benefit of Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 489,369, filed April 24, 2017, which are hereby Incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The present disclosure relates generally to communications, including satellite systems and architectures for communications networks. Background technique [0003] Communication systems typically use satellites to transmit data. Satellite-based systems allow information to be transmitted wirelessly across long distances, such as oceans. For example, satellite-based systems can be used to communicate information to land-based devices, such as handheld devices and home or office devices. Additionally, satellite communication systems can be used to provide coverage where the physical infrastructure has not been installed and / or to provide coverage to mobile devices that do not remain attache...
