Embodiment Construction

[0022] The disclosed embodiments relate to the extraction of imaging signals from time-series recordings. A time series is a series of data points indexed in time order. An example of extracting imaging signals is the separation of signals from imaging recordings, especially imaging recordings of scattering media.

[0023] The imaging signal extraction device of the disclosed embodiments (1) exploits the high-resolution spatial information contained in the residual ballistic light, and extracts the directional information from the scattered light, (2) combines the point spread function (PSF) and scatter effect, and (3) extracting (eg, separating) signals from close sources within a volume (eg, separating scattering effects) by exploiting the spatial and temporal information present in the imaging data without further assumptions about source location or signal properties.

[0024] In one embodiment, an imaging signal extraction device is provided. The device includes a devic...

Abstract

An imaging signal extraction apparatus comprising: an interface; a processing device, the processing device operatively coupled to the interface; and a computer readable medium comprising instructionsthat, when executed by the processing device, the instruction performs operations comprising: a) generating a two-dimensional image from imaging information obtained from the interface, thereby estimating ballistic component of the imaging information; b) generating a three-dimensional image by remapping the two-dimensional image; c) identifying a candidate object in the three-dimensional image;d) obtaining an estimated spatial forward model of the candidate object by mapping the three-dimensional image of the candidate object with a point-spread-function associated with the imaging apparatus; e) obtaining background-corrected data by using the estimated spatial forward model of the candidate object and estimated temporal components; and f) iteratively updating the estimated spatial forward model and estimated temporal components until convergence is reached for the candidate object, thereby extracting the signal information.

Description

[0001] This invention was made with Government support under Intelligence Advanced Research Project Activity (IARPA) Contract No. D16PC00002 awarded by the Department of the Interior / Department of Interior Commerce (DoI / IBC). This invention was also made with government support through Grant No. DBI-1707408 awarded by the National Science Foundation. The government has certain rights in this invention. technical field [0002] The disclosed embodiments relate to extracting signals from time-series recordings, including, for example, imaging recordings, such as imaging recordings of scattering media. Background technique [0003] Understanding the multiscale integration of sensory inputs and the emergence of complex behaviors that are global dynamics of large neuronal populations is a fundamental problem in current neuroscience. Just recently, the combination of genetically encoded calcium (Ca2+) indicators (GECIs) and new optical imaging techniques has enabled the recording...
