Problems solved by technology

[0007] A disadvantage of current CMap techniques in the cosmetic field is that the success rate using condition markers can be much worse than using fiducial markers
One reason for this may be that using tissue samples with multiple cell types to generate gene expression signatures may introduce "noise" into the system

Embodiment

[0085] The following examples demonstrate methods for constructing biased gene expression signatures for skin hyperpigmentation disorders. The biased gene expression provided in this example can be used to query example databases to identify potential skin care actives useful in the treatment of skin pigmentation disorders.

[0086] Sample collection and processing

[0087] Skin tissue samples were collected via 2 mm punch biopsy from 77 human female donors aged 20 to 70 years for use as test or control samples. The test samples in this example were collected from hyperpigmented spots present on the facial skin. The dermatologist visually classified each hyperpigmented spot sampled as one of the following hyperpigmentation conditions: sunspots, seborrheic keratoses, melasma, freckles, natural healing acne lesions, and Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Control samples were collected from adjacent portions of the skin that did not include the hyperpigmentation condition ...

Abstract

An improved connectivity mapping method for identifying connections between a potential skin care agent associated with an instance and genes associated with a skin hyperpigmentation condition. The system includes a non-transitory computer readable medium having a plurality of instances stored thereon, and a biased gene expression signature associated with a skin condition. The biased condition signature is constructed by filtering an unbiased condition signature through a benchmark signature.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for identifying potential skin care agents using biased association mapping techniques. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to improving the accuracy of association mapping techniques for identifying potential skin care agents by biasing transcriptional gene selection with gene expression marker data from reference material. Background technique [0002] Skin conditions include some of the most common cosmetic ailments treated in the developing world, which has created a multi-billion dollar cosmetic skincare industry. Commonly treated skin conditions include: fine lines and / or wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, sallowness, dullness, redness, poor barrier properties (e.g., due to thinning of one or more layers of skin, reduced elasticity and / or reduced resilience), enlarged pores, oily, shiny, and / or dull appearance, acne, dry, itchy, flaky skin, and poor flaking...
