[0055]As an amphiphilic molecule, octenidine has been shown to associate with the surface and thereby reduce fluidity in matrices such as foam. Previous studies have shown that octenidine cannot diffuse freely in the foam matrix, which indicates that there is a high degree of interaction between octenidine and the foam matrix.

Abstract
An open-cell foam wound dressing comprising a formulation of an amphiphilic antiseptic and particular surfactants is provided.
Description
Technical field[0001]The technology relates to open-cell foams used as wound dressings. Background technique[0002]Foam dressings used for wound care are generally hydrophilic and absorb liquid from the wound. Generally, this type of dressing is used for exudative wounds, including leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, postoperative wounds and skin abrasions.[0003]Many antimicrobial compounds that can be used in wound treatment are amphiphilic, such as octenidine. Such compounds bind to the surface and have reduced fluidity in wound environments or hydrophilic matrices such as foam compositions.[0004]In addition, there are challenges when the formulation is exposed to the sensitive wound environment. Specifically, the presence of ions and other components in wound exudates may promote undesirable precipitation of amphiphilic components.[0005]As an amphiphilic molecule, octenidine has been shown to bind to the surface and thereby reduce the fluidity in a matri...
