Embodiment
[0192] Animal fat (AF) derived from food industry waste was blended with crude palm oil (CPO) to obtain a mixture of 50 wt-% AF and 50 wt-% CPO. This biorenewable oil / fat feedstock is first pretreated to remove major impurities by bleaching. Following this, the pretreated feedstream was processed by hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) to produce a biohydrocarbon feed under the conditions specified below. The biohydrocarbon stream is separated and purified to provide a propane feed. Table 1 shows the heteroatom impurities in the biorenewable oil / fat feedstock before pretreatment.
[0193] bleach
[0194] The biorenewable re-oil / fat feedstock was bleached by adding 2000 ppm citric acid, 0.2 wt-% water and 1 wt% fuller's earth to the heated feedstock. These were mixed for 20 minutes at 80°C, after which time the material was dried using vacuum filtration.
[0195] Hydrodeoxygenation
[0196] The pretreated feedstock is then hydrodeoxygenated in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst. ...
