[0081] The WVTR and transverse elongation at break properties of each stretched film were determined according to the following procedure. The results of these assays are listed in Table II below.
[0082] Stretching test
[0083] Films were determined according to Method 5102 Federal Test Method Standard No. 191A at maximum load ("CD Tensile Strength") and elongation at maximum load (in this case, the critical break in a direction 90° to both directions of orientation Elongation, "Critical CD Elongation at Break"). The sample size is 3 inches by 6 inches (2.54 cm by 15.24 cm), with the transverse direction of the sample running parallel to the 6 inch long side of the...
Embodiment 2
[0093] Laminates were prepared separately using Films A, G and H listed in Table I above. A sheet of absorbent material comprising polypropylene meltblown fibers mixed with pulp fibers, also known as a composite formed sheet, is placed under a shower head where hot melt is sprayed against the sheet at 350°F (176.7°C). A body adhesive, such as NS-5610 available from National Starch and Chemical Company of Bridgewater, NJ, is sprayed at a rate of about 2 grams per square meter. One of the above films was unwound from a roll and fed into a pair of nip rolls where the film was contacted with an absorbent sprayed with adhesive to form a laminate which was then wound into a roll. A 0.8 ounce per square yard (27.11 gsm) basis weight spunbond layer was then bonded to the film side of the laminate by the same hot melt lamination process. The WVTR of the three-layer laminate comprising each of the films was determined and compared to the WVTR of the film (by itself). The WVTR of the l...
