Abstract

A niobium doped tin oxide coating is applied onto a glass substrate to produce a low emissivity (low E) glass. The coating can optionally be doped with both niobium and other dopant (s), such as fluorine. The low emissivity glass has properties comparable or superior to conventional low E glass with fluoring doped tin oxide coatings.

Description

Background of the invention

[0001] The present invention relates to a film suitable for use as a coating for glass substrates. More particularly, the present invention relates to the application of niobium-doped tin oxide coatings to glass substrates to produce low emissivity (low E) glasses.

[0002] Coatings on glass are often used to provide specific energy attenuation and light transmission properties. Additionally, when multiple coatings are applied to a glass substrate, the coatings are designed to reduce interfacial reflections between the single coating and the glass. Coated products are usually used alone or in combination with other coated products to form a glazing effect.

[0003] The properties of the resulting coated glass substrate depend on the particular coating applied to the glass substrate. Coating composition and thickness affect the energy absorption and light transmission characteristics within the coated article, as well as the spectral characteristi...
