Embodiment 1

[0058] 20 parts of Epikote 1001 and 44 parts of Jeffamine M 1000 were mixed, and the mixture was heated at 140° C. for about 4 hours under a nitrogen atmosphere until no epoxy group could be detected by, for example, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments. The composition of the reaction solution is chosen such that one mole of primary amino groups is used per mole of epoxy groups. A yellowish, clear and viscous reaction solution was obtained. The product crystallizes out after a period of time and is used as a wetting and dispersing agent, either heated or diluted with a suitable solvent.

[0059] Epikote 1001, commercially available from Shell AG, is a relatively high molecular weight solid epoxy resin based on bisphenol A.

Embodiment 2-4

[0061] Using the method of Example 1, the epoxide was further reacted with the amine. Table 1 summarizes these experiments. These products and the ratio of (poly)epoxide to amine are chosen such that the same mole fraction of amino and epoxy groups is used. In order to ensure this ratio, the epoxy equivalent weight per (poly)epoxide and the number of amino groups per amine are determined.

Embodiment 5

[0066] At about 60°C, with 6.4 parts of phosphate monoester (HO) 2 PO(OR 1 ) to salify 30 parts of the reaction product from Example 2 in which R 1 = Butoxypolyphenylene glycol (AcN ~ 112.5 mg KOH / g; hereinafter referred to as Phosphate A), the reaction product from Example 2 has an amino group number (AmN) of 24 mg KOH / g. A clear, viscous and brown reaction solution was obtained. The salinity value for this example is 1.

[0068] * Phosphate B is a phosphate monoester (HO) 2 PO(OR 1 ), where R 1 = Butoxypoly(ethylene glycol-co-propylene glycol) (AcN ~ 100 mg KOH / g).

Abstract

The invention relates to addition compounds suitable for use as wetting agents and dispersants and obtainable by reacting monofunctional or polyfunctional aromatic epoxides with polyoxyalkylenemonoamines having a number-average molecular weight of >400 g/mol, one primary or secondary amino group and at least 4 ether oxygen atoms per molecule, from 90 to 100% of the epoxide groups of the starting material having undergone reaction, the weight fraction of aromatic groups in the addition compounds being not more than 50% and the addition compounds containing per molecule at least one amino group on which salts can be formed, or being present as a salt.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to reaction products of epoxides with specific amines and their salts, which are used as wetting and dispersing agents for pigments and fillers. The present invention further relates to a method for preparing the reaction product, and to the use of the reaction product as a wetting and dispersing agent for organic and inorganic pigments and fillers in organic and aqueous systems, and to coatings, A powdery or fibrous solid to be added to an aqueous system. Background technique [0002] The abovementioned reaction products are particularly suitable for the preparation of pigment concentrates (pigment pastes) and for the stabilization of particulate solids in adhesives, coatings, plastics and polymer mixtures. The reaction product reduces the viscosity of such systems, improves flow characteristics and storage stability, and increases tint strength. [0003] In order to introduce a solid into a liquid medium, high mechanic...
