Embodiment Construction

[0018] FIG. 1 schematically shows a longitudinal section of an electric motor 10 , which can also be a kind of generator. The electric motor 10 can be used in motor vehicles, for example in window regulators, wiper drives, fans and the like. The electric motor 10 includes a housing 12 and an armature 14 disposed within the housing 12 . The armature 14 has a shaft 16 and an armature core 17 with an armature winding (not shown in detail). The armature winding is connected to a rectifier 20 via lines 18 . Two carbon brushes 22 on diametrically opposite sides act on the commutator 20 on the outer circumference. The carbon brushes 22 are arranged on a brush holder 24 . The rectifier 20 , the carbon brush 22 and the brush holder 24 constitute a rectification mechanism 26 .

[0019] FIG. 2 shows a left side view of the straightening mechanism 26 according to the longitudinal section shown in FIG. 1 . The brush holder 24, preferably made of plastic, extends substantially parallel...

Abstract

The invention relates to a carbon brush (22, 22.1, 22.2, 22.3) for an electric machine (10), which is designed to be pivotally mounted on a brush holder (24, 56) of said machine (10). To this end, the carbon brush (22, 22.1, 22.2, 22.3) is provided with a bearing section (30, 42) for pivotally mounting said brush (22, 22.1, 22.2, 22.3), said section taking the form of a bore (30) or a cylindrical section (42). The advantage of said configuration is that the position of the carbon brush (22, 22.1, 22.2, 22.3) does not alter to a significant extent in relation to the commutator (20), even during extreme fluctuations in temperature. In addition, the carbon brush (22, 22.1, 22.2, 22.3) can be easily positioned in a brush holder (24, 56), thus ensuring an accurate allocation to the commutator.

Description

Background technique [0001] The invention relates to a carbon brush for an electric motor according to the preamble of claim 1 . Such carbon brushes are mounted rotatably on the brush holder of the electric motor. However, the carbon brushes are mounted in a part made of plastic, which is itself mounted rotatably on the brush holder. In the case of large temperature fluctuations, the position of the bearing area between the carbon brushes and the commutator changes drastically due to the temperature coefficient of the plastic. If parts made of metal are used, weight and cost will increase. [0002] Another revolving carbon brush is the hammer brush (Hammerbuerste), in which the carbon brush is fastened to a leaf spring and is powered via a stranded wire or directly via the leaf spring welded to the carbon brush. Manufacturing tolerances can cause height deviations between the carbon brushes and the ideal contact height on the commutator. Noise cannot be avoided in this way...
