A triple lip seal for reciprocating members, and especially for an inner cylindrical tube connected to a vehicle wheel and an off-road motorcycle or bicycle. The seal includes an oil side beam generally parallel to the axis of the reciprocating members and having at least two sealing lips for engaging the inner cylindrical tube and wherein the forces applied to the seal are balanced between the two lips to resist flattening of the sealing lips against the shaft and to enhance the service life of the seal. The seal also includes an air side beam having a third sealing lip engaging the inner cylindrical tube.

A motorcycle foot peg is constructed to absorb shocks and impacts that would otherwise be transmitted to a rider's foot during hard landings of a motorcycle. The impact and shock absorbing motorcycle foot peg has particular applicability to off-road motorcycles. The foot peg has a rigid mounting platform including a mounting plate from which a rigid foot support projects outwardly in cantilevered fashion. The foot support has a flat upper bearing surface and supports a foot pad formed of a resiliently compressible elastomeric material having a Shore A hardness of between about 30 and 60. A foot contact plate is located atop the elastomeric slab. The foot contact plate, the elastomeric slab, and foot support are connected together by bolts passing therethrough. The foot contact plate thereby resides in a floating relationship relative to the foot support and can move both toward the foot support and laterally relative to the foot support to cushion the rider's foot against shocks and impacts. Spacer washers may be provided about the shanks of the bolts to adjust a preload compression on the resilient pad.

Protective footwear, such as a motorcycle or motocross boot, having a molded top gasket and/or a fold-over thermal barrier. The molded top gasket may be a substantially annular unitary piece or multi-piece construction of an elastomeric material, such as rubber, that snugly wraps around the wearer's lower leg or ankle when the footwear is worn. The fold-over thermal barrier is a piece of thermally resistant material on the outer surface of the footwear upper that extends over a portion of the rim and into the inside of the upper. One or more optional control pads also may be placed on the exterior surface of the thermal barrier.

An off-road motorcycle incorporating a swingarm assembly for pivotally supporting a rear wheel relative to a main frame portion of the motorcycle. Preferably, the swingarm includes right and left arms extending rearwardly from a forward connecting portion. Right and left rear wheel mount members are secured to the right and left arms, respectively, to rotatably support the rear wheel of the motorcycle. Preferably, the arms from the swingarm assembly are formed at least partially by a hydroforming process wherein the center of the arms has a width that is greater than the width of either a forward or rearward end of the arm. In addition, the forward ends of each of the right end left arms are bent inward such that the forward portion of the swingarm assembly is narrower than the rear portion of the swingarm assembly. Desirably, the hydroforming process permits the inner wall of the arms to be vertical and substantially planar, even along the region where the arms are bent. In addition, a vibration absorbing coating is applied to the wheel support members in a manner to be interposed between an inner surface of the wheel support members and the outermost portion of a hub of the rear wheel.

To ensure that a down frame in an off-road motorcycle body frame is lightweight, rigid and easy to weld, a down frame extending downward obliquely and backward from a main frame ahead of an engine is divided along its length into a down frame front portion and a down frame rear portion. Welding joins these portions, which abut each other in the longitudinal direction. The down frame front portion is a pipe wrought product formed by extrusion molding and the down frame rear portion is a casting. Since the down frame is welded along a straight welding line extending along its length, welding is easy. Since a main joint and a lower joint are provided integrally with the down frame rear portion as a casting, a separate gusset can be omitted.

The invention relates to a floating brake disc (1), particularly for a motorcycle, particularly an off-road motorcycle, which comprises an outer ring (2) which carries a brake band (23) and an inner ring (3) via which the brake disc (1) is connected to a wheel of the vehicle. According to the invention, at least one region (5) of contact, in particular a number of regions (5) of contact, between the outer ring (2) and the inner ring (3) is/are formed on a circular arc (6) extending, concentrically with the brake disc (1), between the outer ring (2) and the inner ring (3), the outer ring (2) and inner ring (3) being connected to one another in the at least one contact region (5) with at least one connecting means (16), in particular a rivet. The inner ring (3) also has, next to the at least one contact region (5), a projection (7) which engages in an indentation (8) in the outer ring (2) in such a way that a bearing surface (9) between the inner ring (3) and the outer ring (2) can be formed, at least when the brake disc (1) is in operation in a vehicle, particularly a motorcycle.

An insert specifically adapted for use with an off-road tire, such as an off-road tire of a motocross motorcycle, or an off-road bicycle. The insert includes an inflatable tube and a foam element which generally conforms to the contours of the off-road tire to provide support to the tire when the tube is inflated. The ability to deflate the insert facilitates installation of the insert between the wheel rim and off-road tire. When inflated, the insert occupies the space between the wheel rim and tire to support a load during use of the wheel.

A control lever mount assembly suitable for use in connection with an off-road motorcycle. The lever mount assembly includes a lever-supporting portion, or perch, which is configured to rotatably support a control lever. A sleeve is secured to the handlebar and supports the perch for rotation about an axis of the handlebar. A detent assembly secures the perch in a desired angular orientation relative to the sleeve and the handlebar. The detent assembly is configured to permit rotation of the perch in response to a force being imparted to the lever and/or perch during a crash or fall to protect the perch and lever from damage. Preferably, one or more clamp members are configured to apply a clamping force to the sleeve over a relatively large surface area to prevent damage to the handlebar. A slot may be provided in the sleeve to permit the sleeve to be compressed around the handlebar for a secure fit.

The invention relates to a device for separating, and maintaining a distance between, a person's face and a protective eye mask worn on a helmet. The device is formed by two symmetrical elements disposed on each side of the helmet. Each element is formed by a flap (1) hinged to a support (2) by means of a rotation shaft (2). When the flap is positioned to the rear, the strap can be positioned normally. When the user pushes the flap forwards, the flap rotates through approximately 180 ° and becomes the new support point for the mask instead of the face. The mask is then held in place by the tension of the strap and a lever (4) that presses against the mask. A roller (5), mounted on a shaft solidly connected to the flap, facilitates the movement of the flap under the strap. The device provides increased ventilation for the helmet wearer and allows the helmet to be taken off without the protective mask being removed.

The invention discloses a welding fixture for a rear fork of a cross country motorcycle frame, and belongs to the technical field of welding application in machining. The welding fixture comprises a tooling bottom plate and supports arranged on the tooling bottom plate. Each support comprises a front support, a shock absorbing seat pipe support and a rear support. The supports are corresponding to all parts of the rear fork of the cross country motorcycle frame. Through adoption of the technical scheme, the rear fork of the motorcycle frame is accurately positioned during the welding process, the precision of the size of the welded rear fork of the motorcycle frame is ensured, and the welding efficiency is improved.

An off-road motorcycle incorporates a swingarm assembly for pivotally supporting a rear wheel relative to a frame of the motorcycle. Preferably, the swingarm includes right and left arms extending rearwardly from a forward connecting portion. Right and left rear wheel mount members are secured to the right and left arms, respectively, to rotatably support the rear wheel of the motorcycle. Preferably, the arms of the swingarm assembly are formed at least partially by a hydroforming process and the center of each of the arms has a width that is greater than the width of either a forward or rearward end of the arm. In addition, the forward end of each of the right end left arms preferably is bent inward such that the forward portion of the swingarm assembly is narrower than the rear portion of the swingarm assembly. The hydroforming process permits the inner wall of the arms to be vertical and substantially planar along the region where the arms are bent about a generally vertically extending axis. In addition, a vibration absorbing coating can be applied to the wheel support members in a manner to be interposed between an inner surface of the wheel support members and the outermost portion of a hub of the rear wheel.

A visor that is especially useful for motorcycle riders and especially for off-road motorcycle racing. The visor has a sun shade member and a mirror. The mirror is affixed to an under surface of the sun shade member. The mirror has a continuous convex surface with a curvature that is free of discontinuations and step changes. The mirror is spaced an effective distance from the user's eyes and has a lateral span and a longitudinal span that are large enough so that the helmet wearer can simultaneously see approximately the same field of view to a side and rear with each eye by a slight turn and tilt of the user's head while an unobstructed line of sight in the direction of travel is retained. The invention also includes a mirror that can be retrofitted to various sun shade members and a kit for retrofitting the mirror in existing sun shade members.
