A collapsible acoustic stringed instrument is disclosed having a hollow body with a soundboard, a back face and a spacer defining a sound chamber. A sound post is secured within the hollow body and engaging the soundboard and the back face. The sound post has a securement pin on each end with a sharpened portion to engage the soundboard and the back face and maintain proper positioning when the instrument strings are loosened. A neck is pivotally and laterally coupled to the body, which further has a door slidably received by specially formed channels in the back face. The neck is able to pivot and slide through the door and into the sound chamber from a playing position to a stored position, without disturbing the sound post or otherwise compromising the appearance or performance of the instrument with respect to a standard non-collapsible instrument.

A stringed musical instrument has a head assembly, a tail, and an elongate neck extending from the head assembly to the tail. The neck defines a fingerboard having a surface layer and a substrate. The surface layer includes an exposed surface formed of sheet metal deformed to unitarily define a plurality of frets thereon. The stringed instrument includes a soundboard including upper and lower panels arranged with an interval therebetween and a side panel surrounding the rims of the upper and lower panels, a neck part extending from the soundboard and provided at a distal end thereof with a head, one or more strings secured between the head and the soundboard, and a piezoelectric element to convert vibration and pressure of the strings into electric signals. A finger placement sensor array is disposed on the neck portion proximate the frets and the neck strings. A string vibration sensor is disposed on the body portion proximate the body strings. Although the approximate length of the neck portion can be about 8 to about 12 inches, the fret board on the neck portion includes a plurality of frets that are precisely spaced to provide the fret spacing of a standard, 25.6- to 26-inch “scale length” acoustical guitar.

A small, portable device used to exercise and train the fingers of a stringed instrument player. The device comprises a rigid, short neck body, u-shaped in cross-section and designed to simulate a short section of the neck of a stringed instrument, such as a guitar. The neck body is hollow with an elongated main cavity formed therein with two or more, transversely aligned finger bars located there over. Each finger bar is mounted on two or more coil springs enabling the finger bar to move up and down on the neck body. The top of each finger bar finger bar is flat and includes four to six raised string lines that represent strings on a stringed instrument. The increased strength of the neck joint created by the metal block allows the heel portion of the lap joint where the body overlaps the neck to be considerable thinner then a conventional guitar. The invention is a novel fret wire for use on the fingerboards of stringed instruments. The fret wire has a crown of any usable shape for contact with strings, as usual, but is distinguished by the structure of the tang affixed to the crown. The tang comprises bending notches that extend nearly through the height of the tang that allow the fret wire to more easily bend to shape of a contoured fret board. Tang elements formed by the notches embody random roughness or elongated striations to hold the fret wire securely in the grooves of a fret board.
