Problems solved by technology

On the other hand, the following compound B is known as a blue light-emitting device, but this device is not practical from the viewpoint of lifetime and efficiency.
Therefore, it is necessary to develop other complexes for blue light-emitting devices, but at present, except for compound B, no blue-coloring factor has been found.

[0140] Example 1 (manufacture of organic EL element)

[0141] The glass substrate with the transparent electrode after washing is installed on the substrate holder of the vacuum evaporation device, at first on the surface of the side where the transparent electrode is formed, a copper phthalocyanine blue film (CuPc film) with a film thickness of 10 nm is formed, and the A film covers the above-mentioned transparent electrodes. This CuPc film functions as a hole injection layer. Next, an NPD film described below with a film thickness of 30 nm was formed on the CuPc film. This NPD film functions as a hole transport layer. Further, the following matrix material (CBP) was vapor-deposited on this film to a film thickness of 30 nm to form a light-emitting layer. At the same time, a metal coordination compound (25) is added as a phosphorescent Ir metal complex dopant. The concentration of compound (25) in the light-emitting layer was 6% by weight. On this light-emitting layer, a...

Abstract

Disclosed is a metal complex compound of a specific structure which has a partial structure having a tridentate ligand. Also disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device wherein an organic thin film composed of one or more layers including at least a light-emitting layer is interposed between a pair of electrodes. At least one layer of the organic thin film contains the above-described metal complex compound, and the organic electroluminescent device emits light when a voltage is applied between the electrodes. The organic electroluminescent device emits light of short wavelength, and enables to obtain blue emission with high color purity. The metal complex compound enables to realize such an organic electroluminescent device.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a new metal coordination compound and an organic electroluminescence element using the compound, in particular to an organic electroluminescence element which makes the emission wavelength shorter to obtain blue emission, has high luminous efficiency and long life, and realizes the element metal complexes. Background technique [0002] In recent years, researches on organic electroluminescence (EL) elements as display devices for color displays instead of liquid crystals have become active. However, the performance of these light-emitting elements is still insufficient in order to realize a large screen. As a means to improve the performance of organic EL elements, it has been proposed to use orthometallated iridium complexes (fac-three (2-phenylpyridine) iridium) for green light-emitting elements formed by light-emitting materials (referring to Non-Patent Document 1; Non-Patent Document 1; Patent Document 2). [000...
