Background of the invention [0001] Bamboo is a lignocellulosic material widely used as a construction material throughout Asia due to its high strength, durability and excellent dimensional stability. Given its widespread use and excellent properties, there is a need for structural panels made of bamboo. [0002] Currently, such bamboo structural panels are made by hand-cutting the exterior, or surface, of bamboo stems into bamboo strips, which are then woven (and often again by hand) into mats. These hand-cut, hand-woven bamboo mats are then stacked with several other similar mats, which are then pressed together at high heat. [0003] The problem with this method of making bamboo panels is that it is time consuming; the steps of cutting bamboo strips and then weaving them into mat form take considerable time.
