[0039] In accordance with the present invention, a method of recovering hydrocarbons from a hydrocarbon-containing material may include forming a structured permeability control infrastructure. The structured infrastructure defines a substantially enclosed volume. Produced or harvested hydrocarbonaceous material may be introduced into the control infrastructure to form a permeable body of hydrocarbonaceous material. The permeable body may be heated sufficiently to remove hydrocarbons therefrom. The hydrocarbonaceous material may be substantially stationary during heating because the structured infrastructure is a fixed structure. The removed hydrocarbons may be collected for further processing, for use in a process, and / or for use as in recovery.
