However, this technique is only able to reduce the number of wires up to about half
Therefore, this technology does not sufficiently suppress the increase in the chip area of the driver circuit to cope with the recent increase in the gray scale of the liquid crystal panel.

example 1

[0064] referenced below Figure 6 An example is described in a case where the first selector 2 selects the reference voltage V6 as the first selected voltage and selects the reference voltage V2 as the second selected voltage based on the high-order bit. Assume that the reference voltage V6 is a voltage of 6V and the reference voltage V2 is a voltage of 2V. At this time, V6 is set to line L 1 as the first selected voltage, and V2 is set to the line L 2 as the second selected voltage. In such a case, voltage divider 3 sets 6V to line L 3 and set 2V to line L 6 . Also, voltage divider 3 sets 5V to line based on V6 and V2 4 and set 4V to line L 5 .

[0065] The second selector 4 selects two voltages among 6V, 5V, 4V, and 2V based on the low-order bits, and then sets one to the line L 7 and set another to line L 8 .

[0066] refer to Figure 6 , in case 1, the second selector 4 sets 6V to line L 7 and set 5V to line L 8 . Then, the regulated voltage Vreg of 1V is st...

example 2

[0092] referenced below Figure 9 An example is described in a case where the first selector 2 selects the reference voltage V6 as the first selected voltage and selects the reference voltage V2 as the second selected voltage based on the high-order bit. As in the first exemplary embodiment, it is assumed that the reference voltage V6 is a voltage of 6V and the reference voltage is a voltage of 2V. Also, at this time, V6 is set to line L 1 as the first selected voltage, and V2 is set to the line L 2 as the second selected voltage.

[0093] refer to Figure 9 , in case 1, the switch SW 4 and switch SW 5 are disconnected. Both the first current mirror circuit and the second current mirror circuit are in an off state. Therefore, the output voltage regulator circuit 50B is not operating, and the voltage Vout output from the driver circuit 1B is 6V equal to the first selected voltage.

[0094] In case 2, switch SW 4 is in the on state, and the switch SW 5 is disconnected....

Abstract

A driver circuit of a display device includes a gray-scale voltage circuit that generates a plurality of different reference voltages, a first selector circuit that selects one of the reference voltages as a first selected voltage and selects one of the reference voltages different from the first selected voltage as a second selected voltage, an amplifier that outputs an output voltage based on the first selected voltage, and an output voltage regulator circuit that regulates a potential of the output voltage by using a regulated voltage generated based on the first and second selected voltages. The output voltage regulator circuit regulates a potential of the output voltage from the amplifier. This allows reduction of the number of reference voltages generated in the gray-scale voltage circuit and the number of lines connecting the gray-scale voltage circuit and the first selector circuit, enabling reduction of the chip area of the driver circuit.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a driver circuit of a display device. Background technique [0002] Recent progress towards miniaturization and higher performance of display devices (liquid crystal panels) is remarkable. Therefore, the driver circuit of the liquid crystal panel is also required to have higher performance. [0003] The driver circuit of the liquid crystal panel includes a number of driver units corresponding to the number of data lines of the liquid crystal panel in order to apply a desired voltage to a pixel electrode included in each pixel of the liquid crystal panel. In addition, the driver circuit includes a grayscale voltage circuit that generates a plurality of different voltages so that each driver unit can output a desired voltage. [0004] Recently, the progress toward higher gray levels of liquid crystal panels has been particularly remarkable. Therefore, the number of lines connecting the grayscale voltage circuit and the driver ...
