Abstract

The invention discloses a phase-type polarization controller, which belongs to the field of optical fiber communication. The phase-type polarization controller comprises an input fiber, an output fiber and a drive circuit, and is characterized in that the phase-type polarization controller consists of three-stage continuous adjustable phase shifters in cascade, wherein the continuous adjustable phase shifter comprises two parallel polarization beam splitters having a birefringence fast axis and a birefringence slow axis in the same direction, and two total reflection prisms arranged on the same ends of the two polarization beam splitters in parallel; the inclined planes of the two total reflection prisms are parallel to the end faces of the two polarization beam splitter; and one total reflection prism is fixed on a piezoelectric ceramic. For the first-stage continuous adjustable phase shifter and the second-stage continuous adjustable phase shifter, the birefringence fast axis and the total reflection prism simultaneously rotate by 45 degree or 135 degree through taking the light beam as the shaft; and the birefringence fast axis and the total reflection prism of the third-stage continuous adjustable phase shifter have the same direction or rotate by 90 degree. The piezoelectric ceramics of the three-stage continuous adjustable phase shifters are controlled by the drive circuit to achieve the conversion from an arbitrary determined input polarization state to an arbitrary determined polarization state. The phase-type polarization controller has fast response and high accuracy.
