Embodiment Construction

[0007] The following is a detailed description of the invention.

[0008] Herein, unless the context clearly states otherwise, the following terms have defined meanings.

[0009] The term "antimicrobial compound" means a compound capable of inhibiting or controlling the growth of microorganisms; antimicrobial compounds include bactericides, bacteristats, fungicides, fungicides, algicides and algae inhibitors, depending on Dosage used, system conditions, and desired level of microbial control. The term "microorganism" includes, for example, fungi (eg, yeasts and moulds), bacteria and algae. The following abbreviations are used in this specification: ppm = parts per million by weight (weight / weight), mL = milliliter, ATCC = American Type Culture Collection, MIC = minimum inhibitory concentration. Unless otherwise stated, temperatures are in degrees Celsius (° C.) and percentages are by weight (wt %). The percentage content of the antimicrobial compound in the composition of t...

Abstract

A synergistic antimicrobial composition containing a glyphosate compound and thiabendazole is provided. Also provided is a method of inhibiting the growth of or controlling the growth of microorganisms in a building material by adding such a synergistic antimicrobial composition. Also provided is a coating composition containing such a synergistic antimicrobial composition, and a dry film made from such a coating composition.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to combinations of biocides that have unexpectedly higher activity than would be expected from each antimicrobial compound alone. Background of the invention [0002] Using a combination of at least two antimicrobial compounds can broaden the potential market, reduce use concentrations and costs, and reduce waste. In some cases, commercially available antimicrobial compounds may not be effective even at high use concentrations due to their poor activity against certain types of microorganisms (eg, microorganisms resistant to some antimicrobial compounds). Compounds also fail to provide effective microbial control. Combinations of different antimicrobial compounds are sometimes used to provide overall control of microorganisms in a specific end-use environment. For example, WO 1998 / 121962 discloses the combination of 3-iodo-2-propynyl-butylcarbamate and zinc pyrithione, but this reference does not suggest any of the combi...
