The invention relates to a weak hybrid power system for thermoelectric conversion based on automobile exhaust, and a control method thereof, wherein the system comprises a thermoelectric conversion unit, an output energy storage unit, a power assembly unit and a finished-automobile energy management unit, wherein a hot end of a thermoelectric device in the thermoelectric conversion unit absorbs heat carried by high-temperature exhaust; a cold end thereof constructs a temperature difference of the cold end and the hot end by cooling action of cooled water to generate direct current electric energy; the output energy storage unit charges a storage battery by using power generation energy of the thermoelectric conversion unit or a B-ISG motor, and stores, or supplies power to automobile electrical appliances of +36V and 12V, and B-ISG; the power assembly unit controls operation states of an automobile engine, the B-ISG motor and a transmission system; and the finished-automobile energy management unit comprehensively manages and controls energy of the system under various working modes. According to the invention, waste heat exhausted by automobile exhaust can be effectively recovered and used so as to increase fuel economy of automobile engine, and be helpful to reduce discharge of automobile exhaust.
