Embodiment 1

[0065] refer to Figure 4 , when the end of the active period is notified by the last grouping flag, the UE operates in the following manner.

[0066] In step 405, the UE receives information on DRX cycle length, start location acquisition information, and minimum active period length during call setup. Then, the UE prepares for DRX operation.

[0067] In step 410, the UE obtains the starting position of the active period from the starting position retrieval information (eg, UE's ID and DRX cycle length), and determines whether the starting position of the active period has come.

[0068] If the active period has not started, then in step 435 the UE is kept in the dormant period until the start of the active period. The UE knows that the active period starts at the DRX cycle length after the start position of the previous active period.

[0069] When the active period starts, the UE activates timer T (DRX_CYCLE_LENGTH (DRX cycle length)) and timer T (MINIMUM_ACTIVE (minimum...

Embodiment 2

[0077] refer to Figure 5 , the UE operates in the same manner as in the first exemplary embodiment of the present invention, except for the manner in which the UE determines the termination of the active period. Therefore, with Figure 4 The steps that are different from the illustrated steps are described below. That is, since Figure 5 of steps 505 to 520 to be combined with Figure 4 The steps 405 to 420 are performed in the same manner, so they will not be described.

[0078] In step 525, the UE receives the packet from the Node B according to the predetermined HARQ protocol.

[0079] Since the UE continues to receive the downlink control channel, it monitors the downlink control channel in step 530 for the reception of the signal indicating the end of the active period.

[0080] Once the signal is received, the UE proceeds to step 540, and otherwise, the UE returns to step 525 to continue packet reception.

[0081] The UE completes the processing of the HARQ packet...

Embodiment 3

[0083] refer to Image 6 , in step 605, the UE receives the information about the DRX cycle length, the starting position acquisition information, the minimum active period length, and the active period end interval during the call setup. Then, the UE prepares for DRX operation. The minimum active period length can be the same as the active period end interval. In this case, only one of the two can be signaled. Then, the UE prepares for DRX operation.

[0084] In step 610, the UE obtains the starting position of the active period from the starting position retrieval information (eg, UE's ID and DRX cycle length), and determines whether the starting position of the active period has come.

[0085] If the active period has not started, then in step 635 the UE is kept in the dormant period until the start of the active period. The starting position of the active period is obtained by retrieving the information from the starting position, and at the DRX cycle length after the ...

Abstract

A method and apparatus for performing a Discontinuous Reception (DRX) operation of a connected User Equipment (UE) in a mobile communication system are provided. For a packet service, adjusting an active period length according to the requirements of traffic at a reception time provides a DRX operation. Also, the UE enters into a sleep mode after confirming successful reception of packets including retransmission packets and sending an RLC ACK signal for the packets.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of an invention patent application with an application date of March 28, 2007, an application number of 200780010787.8, and an invention title of "method and device for discontinuous reception of a connection terminal in a mobile communication system". technical field [0002] The present invention generally relates to discontinuous reception (DRX) operation in mobile communication systems. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method and apparatus for performing DRX operations in a connected terminal using a variable active period. Background technique [0003] Wireless communication systems are largely designed because the communication devices have no access to a fixed wired network. Such wireless communication systems include mobile communication systems, wireless local area networks (WLAN), wireless broadband (WiBro), and mobile ad hoc systems. [0004] Specifically, mobile communication systems are ba...
