Abstract

The invention belongs to an emission subsystem of a communication system, and relates to a tunable multi-wavelength light source and a modulation method thereof. The tunable multi-wavelength light source comprises a wavelength tunable narrowband light source, a polarization controller, an IQ modulator, a microwave signal source and a power divider. Continuous light emitted by a laser is input to the light port of the IQ modulator through the polarization controller, radiofrequency signals of the microwave signal source are divided into two paths through the power divider, the two paths of signals are respectively input to the microwave ports of an upper arm and a lower arm of the IQ modulator, according to a balance condition, upper-arm offset voltage and lower-arm offset voltage of the IQ modulator and the amplitude of upper-arm and lower-arm sinusoidal modulation signals are adjusted, and finally, five flat spectral lines with intervals of f, i.e., a generated light comb, are obtained at the output light port of the IQ modulator. According to the invention, the center wavelength and the wavelength interval can be flexibly adjusted, and compared to a conventional a multi-wavelength light source composed of a laser array, the tunable multi-wavelength light source has the advantages of low energy consumption, easy tuning and the like.
