[0012] In an oxyfuel burning power plant, fossil fuels are burned in a furnace with oxygen. The flue gas of oxyfuel combustion mainly contains carbon dioxide, water vapor, sulfur dioxide and small amounts of other gases. The present invention provides methods for removing these components by cooling, fractional distillation and separation of water vapor, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide. Sulfur dioxide is separated and can be transported for outlet in gas or liquid form. Carbon dioxide can also be separated and compressed to be transported externally for industrial use or storage.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for jointly removing SO2 and CO2 from flue gas, the method comprising simultaneously removing CO2 and SO2 in a primary fractionation column and two refining columns. The method comprises: a) hot flue gas pretreatment, including removal of flue gas SO3 by dry sorbent injection; b) compressing the treated hot flue gas through a multi-stage compressor; c) separating CO2, SO2 from non-condensable gases ; d) sending the CO2 and SO2 to separate finishing columns; and e) combining the streams from the primary fractionation column and the two finishing columns for energy recovery.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 628,823, filed November 7, 2011. technical field [0003] The present invention provides a method of removing sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide from an oxy-fuel fired power plant. Background technique [0004] Combustion of fossil fuels produces SO with dilution 2 and CO 2 of flue gas, the diluted SO 2 and CO 2 Difficult to remove in a single removal process. The prior art to remove them is to use flue gas desulfurization (FGD) to remove SO 2 , and then washed with solvent to remove CO 2 . The FGD process requires the use of reagents such as lime slurry, and the process generates waste such as calcium sulfate that needs to be disposed of off-site. used to capture CO from this flue gas 2 The prior art is to use solvent washing. Many solvents are underdeveloped, including amines that tolerate impurities in coal-fired boiler flue gas ...
