Problems solved by technology

Furthermore, the resulting LAO products have only limited thermal stability
In addition, side reactions may occur in oligomerization reactors and reactor outlet piping, such as fouling, clogging by trace amounts of high molecular weight linear alpha-olefins, which can have an impact on product quality
There can also be problems with limited mixing efficiency and corrosiveness of linear alpha olefins during the catalyst deactivation and removal steps

Embodiment Construction

[0036] Other features and advantages of the method of the invention will now be apparent from the detailed description of its preferred embodiments.

[0037] Ethylene is oligomerized using a catalyst comprising a zirconium component and an aluminum component in a suitable reactor, for example an empty tubular reactor, as disclosed in DE4338414C1. A suitable zirconium component is zirconium tetraisobutyrate and a suitable aluminum component is ethylaluminum trichloride.

[0038] The oligomerization is carried out under conditions known in the art (temperature, pressure, etc.). Ethylene, solvent and catalyst are introduced. A liquid organic outlet stream is discharged from the reactor into a reactor outlet piping system containing solvent (eg, toluene), catalyst, ethylene dissolved in solvent, and linear alpha-olefin. The liquid organic outlet stream is diverted to a catalyst deactivation and removal zone. The catalyst is deactivated by caustic and removed from the outlet str...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for preparing linear alpha-olefins (LAO) by oligomerization of ethylene in the presence of solvent and homogenous catalyst, comprising the steps of: (i) feeding ethylene, solvent and catalyst into an oligomerization reactor, (ii) oligomerizing the ethylene in the reactor, (iii) removing a reactor outlet stream comprising solvent, linear alpha-olefins, ethylene, and catalyst from the reactor via a reactor outlet piping system, (iv) transferring the reactor outlet stream to a catalyst deactivation and removal step, and (v) deactivating and removing the catalyst from the reactor outlet stream, characterized in that at least one organic amine is added into the oligomerization reactor and / or into the reactor outlet piping system.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the 200980103593.1 patent application for invention filed on January 7, 2009, entitled "Method for Preparing Linear α-Olefins". technical field [0002] The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of linear alpha-olefins (LAO). Background technique [0003] Processes for the oligomerization of ethylene using a homogeneous catalyst are well known. For example, DE4338414C1 discloses a process for oligomerizing ethylene to obtain a linear alpha-olefin, wherein ethylene is reacted in an empty tubular reactor using a catalyst containing a zirconium component and an aluminum component. in the catalytic conversion. The process is advantageously carried out in a continuous manner, wherein gaseous and liquid outlet streams are obtained. The liquid outlet stream typically contains solvent, catalyst, dissolved ethylene and linear alpha-olefins. The catalyst may preferably be deactivated by caustics, but other ...
