[0192]A polycarbonate canopy used on an F-22A jet was lightly ground to increase its surface roughness and surface area for receiving a primer (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, an adhesion Accelerator). Primer was gravity applied to the canopy. Next, a polymer solution (FX-430, produced by PPG Industries, Inc.) was applied to the canopy by flow coating to form an adhesive layer (tie coat). The polymer solution was poured from the top of the canopy and from end to end so that the solution flowed down and flowed by gravity to coat the canopy. Excess polymer solution was allowed to flow down into a dripping pan and collected for proper disposal.
