Abstract

The present invention describes an adhesive article comprising a foamed adhesive layer and a non-foamed adhesive layer. The adhesive of each adhesive layer comprises a tetrahydrofurfuryl (meth)acrylate copolymer; an epoxy resin; a polyether polyol; and optionally a hydroxyl-functional film-forming polymer. Adhesives are available in structural and semi-structural bonding applications and are designed to fail cohesively.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to structural and semistructural bonding adhesive articles, and methods for making the adhesives and articles. The present invention also relates to articles comprising one or more components bonded together with a structural bonding adhesive. Background technique [0002] Structural bonding tapes can be used to bond one or more substrates to each other. Many structural adhesive tapes fall into one of two groups: (1) structural adhesive tapes that are heat curable, and (2) structural adhesive tapes that are activatable with ultraviolet (UV) light. As the class name suggests, heat curable structural bonding tapes require heat to cure the adhesive composition of the tape. UVi Structural Bonding Tapes contain an adhesive composition that initially cures when exposed to UV light, but does not require heat to cure. Heat can be used to accelerate the cure rate of UVi structural adhesive tapes. [0003] Typically, a length of...
