Microneedles can be used to deliver therapeutic agents or withdraw interstitial fluid or blood without penetrating tissue as deeply as conventional needles. Such microneedles can be used individually or as an array of needles. Needles are generally produced by mass production at relatively low cost. To effectively function as a therapeutic agent delivery mechanism or therapeutic tool, the microneedles must be sharp enough to penetrate the dermal surface while still maintaining the benefit of being relatively painless. Injection molding is a means of mass-producing microneedle arrays at low cost and with high precision regarding the shape of the needles.
