[0108] Preparation of Inventive Composition 1 (TBAT:TMHAT, 95:05 (by weight)) - in the toluene method:

[0109] Composition 1 of the present invention was prepared by mixing tert-butyl acrylate (TBAT) (190.0 g), 3,5,5-trimethylhexyl acrylate (TMHAT) (10.0 g) and 2-ethyl peroxy in a glass bottle. Tert-butyl caproate (TBPE) (0.22 g) was mixed well to make a monomer mixture. Then, 66.67 g of the monomer mixture and 100.0 g of toluene were transferred to a Claisen adapter (set at 0.2 standard cubic feet per hour ( scfh)), a thermocouple and a stopper in a 1 L round bottom flask (“reaction vessel”). This mixture was heated to 90°C. The remaining 133.3 g of the monomer mixture was added via a peristaltic pump over 180 minutes and maintained at 90°C during the addition. After transferring all of the monomer mixture to the reaction vessel, the reaction temperature was maintained at 90°C for 180 minutes. The temperature was then adjusted to 100°C, and TBPE (0.06 g) was added to the...

Abstract

There is disclosed an antifoam component which includes at least one poly(acrylate) copolymer for use in a fuel. Poly(acrylate) polymers prepared by polymerizing a (meth)acrylate monomer comprising C1to C30 alkyl esters of (meth)acrylic acid ('multifunctional monomer') are also disclosed. Other poly(acrylate) polymers prepared by polymerizing (i) a (meth)acrylate monomer comprising C1 to C4 alkylesters of (meth)acrylic acid ('solubility monomer'); (ii) a (meth)acrylate monomer comprising C5 to C12 alkyl esters of (meth)acrylic acid ('surface tension monomer'); and (iii) optionally at least one additional monomer comprising a solubility monomer, a surface tension monomer, a monomer comprising C1 to C30 alkyl esters of (meth)acrylic acid ('multifunctional monomer'), or combinations thereofare also disclosed.

Description

Background technique [0001] The disclosed technology relates to compounds suitable for use as defoamer components in diesel fuels. Specifically, diesel fuel compositions and concentrates comprising the antifoam component and uses thereof are disclosed. [0002] Diesel fuel tends to foam, and is particularly problematic in point-of-sale applications when diesel fuel is being pumped into a vehicle's fuel tank ("top-up"). When diesel fuel is drawn into the tank, a large amount of foam is rapidly generated, thereby greatly reducing the amount of diesel fuel that can be drawn into the tank each time a refueling is performed. [0003] Reducing the amount of foam generated during refueling would greatly increase the volumetric capacity of diesel tanks, but no viable defoamer options exist in the North American market. Currently, only nitrogen, oxygen, carbon and / or hydrogen ("NOCH") based chemistries are permitted in North American diesel applications. This rules out known silicon...
